Lots of calls and emails both here and to Harbour Lights for a few hours today. The forums were unavailable while the software was upgraded to the most recent version.

This upgrade has caused the look of the forums to change. Please be patient while I explore the possibilities and see what, if anything needs to be changed.

In the meantime, explore and enjoy.

What's all this MEMBER RATING STUFF, 5 star generals and the like?? The caste system ... off the top of my head, I don't think I like it!!

It appears that any registered member can rate any other member, but a person cannot rate themselves. It also appears to be completely anonymous as to who rated who, and for what amount. Probably a harmless little feature that most really won't pay any attention to. We know that we're all 5 star WACKOs at heart, and harmless little fuzzballs! LOL.

Also FYI. For those who may be curious, the 'member number' next to each person's name are not actually numbered in order of registration, but are numbered in alphabetical order based on the user's Forum name. It runs alpabetically for around 300 users, then starts over again alphabetically for the next 300 or so users, etc. I was looking at the order from within the Forum's main control panel, and haven't figured out what it's really basing them on. Kind of random. Future registrants will probably now be given additional numbers based on their registration order. It doesn't appear that these early ones can be changed to the original registration order. There are no members #1, #2 or #3. It looks like "AMD" is the lowest as member #4.

That's why John is number #132, and not #1...Sorry, Boss. LOL

Man, I thought I was in the wrong place there for a moment. Sure looks different! I see we've traded in our lenses for light bulbs.

I like it but it will take some getting use to. The trickey part is the logging in before you can post at all. I relaize that the old way we had to log in on each Forum and this way we only have to log in once which is a lot better. But, when your old and decrepid-------

The fact Rod gives a lengthy explanation suggests the 'member number' is confusing. I suspect most folks will believe this number represents the order in which the person became a forum member. If that is not the case, I can't think of a reason to display it. JC?

But I must admit that I'm lost with all this UBB stuff. It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks. And I'm computer stupid!!! (need help!) I looked at the "What is UBB Code?" and it confused me even more. LOL Guess I'll have to go to the play room and try some of this out. Will this UBB let me post Photos from My Documents?

When using the search function you now must enter a person's member number instead of username.

I'd prefer a 4 digit number John, so I can box it in the daily win 4 lottery and win some HL $, all numerals different please so the payout will be higher. (Just kidding!)

Always thinkin' Sue! You can use your number of posts for your 4 digit number -= at least for the next few months 'til you reach 5 digits :p

Shortcake - yep, UBB will let you add pictures to your posts. Go up to the top of this forum and click on the mailbox slot - there's a wealth of information there.

As for member numbers, I didn't understand that numbering until Rod fingered it out.

I never had to log in to post or reply, for whatever reason, so logging in now is an extra step for me- not complaining, but it takes me sooooooooo long to type(?) anything. That's why on the chat my reply comes in a scrolled page later! The new format is nice, hope to figure it all out someday. Also how to keep my displayed name from showing up.

Not sure why, but I never logged in before and DON"T LOG IN NOW. It just seems to work AOK.

If you don't log out when you finish your forum browsing for the day, when you return the next day you are still shown as "logged in". (At least that is what happened to me. . .) So, maybe this can actually speed things up for you if you never log out.

In the case of the Forums, don't know the downside of not logging out other than maybe others can see that you are logged in.

As Dave said, I remain logged in each time that I return. This seems to be connected with your allowing cookies to be set on your computer. I note that under the old board 2 cookies were set when you visited, now there are five.
