Well looks like the Y2K bug has hit the Forums. Posts made after midnight on 12/31/99 are showing as 01/01/100.
It was due for an update anyways. It does affect your cookie - I can't make those new posts lights go out - the systems thinks I haven't read them yet.
Hang in there. The power is still on and the elevators are working over at the FSB.

WHEW!! Thank goodness! I thought I had pulled a Rip van Winkle and missed the last hundred years. The thought of all the Harbour Lights models I had missed and what the secondary market price I would have to pay for all those retired pieces was beginning to panic me!

We're running 5.35 5.37 cured the bug. I've put in for the update. Might be a couple of days. Hope you stockpiled some bits and bytes.

Good going, JC. No doubt a slip twixt a zero and a one. We need to be on at least version 5.37; current version is 5.41a, released on 12/20/99. Some neat new stuff in the later releases, so it looks like we'll get some new UBB code options, like [LIST] to allow easy creation of bulleted lists. Also the ability to associate icons with individual messages.
I think I'll open this bottle of Serial Port I've been savin, and just kick back.
99 million bits on the wall 99 million bits Take one down Pass it around And the forum will take some hits __ /im (tee hee) [This message has been edited by JTimothyA (edited 01-01-100).]

Some posted messages say 00-10-10...I'm sure that's the same problem as the other, right? Also, I posted something in the Store Events and the date didn't change from 12-13-99...should it have? Derith

I kinda like the 24 hour ++ times! I always talked about putting 20 pounds of stuff in a 10 pound bag, but now we have 30 hours in a 24 hour day! Have to agree that if this is the worst that happens we at least got to have fun with it. With all the hype, we had to have some glitch somewhere.

I hate it when it does this.
I'm promised it will get done today.
And I'm hoping there is some conversion function that will reset those years from 100 to 2000 and the days & dates as well.
We shall see

I sure hope the new software gets done soon. Looking at the forums for the past week sure makes me appreciate the little red dots to tell me whats new since last time. The weird times don't bother me much but I sure miss those red dots!
John, I know you're working hard to get it fixed. Thanks for all you do to keep the forums running so well.

Yeah, but when it gets fixed we will have to find something else to gripe about. I notice that we're now up to 40 hour days. Maybe we should contact Guinness to see if we can qualify for a place in the record book??? lol

Well the Y2K upgrade seems to have fixed all the funky dates and times, but what happened to the red folders that indicate threads with new postings since the last visit? If I had to choose between the flaming folders and the red ones, I'd take the red ones. Can we get all three? Also, I liked the Point Arena light on/light off markers better than the bulbs, but this doesn't matter all that much to me. I'm not sure I understand the "turn off smilies in this post option". If ya don't want smilies, just don't make 'em! Thanks John! ------------------ -Art

Yep, looks like all the old posts got their dates updated.
I have to change the icons for the bulbs to the lighthouse on and off.

Glad to see the new software is up and running. Looks great!!! What does the "IP:logged" in the lower right corner mean? I don't recall these in the old software.

Each time you connect to the Internet, you are assigned an IP number which identifies you to the system.
The UBB software has 3 settings - show IP numbers, don't show them, or Log them. As it is set now, Cruise Directors and Saints can click on that 'Logged' link and view your IP number -- 32.100.149.153.
As you go to various sites on the Internet, your activity at that site is logged. So it is possible with the right software to analyze the movement of visitors through the site, see where errors occured, see how many and which pages were read where you came from (to get to that site) and how you leave that site.
Kind of big-brother like, but for those with a dial-up connection, the IP number changes each time you sign on. For those with a permanent connection -- such as a cable modem, should have the same IP number unless their connection goes down and is restarted.
With UBB, many sites are 'open' - not requiring registration and the threads and messages might get more mean and nasty. Knowing the IP number of one of the bums will allow the Forumeister to ban posts from his or her IP.
At least that's MY understanding of it. Tim?

You probably need to check with Todd, since he is a firefighter, he probably put them all out.

The flames indicated 'Hot Topics' - ones that had a specific minimum number of posts (like 20).
I exercised my perogative and disabled that function.

Same question as Sean's for me. Also, the delete a post option is nice. I tried to edit a post but hit "flood control"? Now that I have this new PC and am able to fly through the forums faster than the speed of sound, I got flooded out?

I've checked through the documentation and don't see a way to do that. But I'll post it on the UBB board to see if someone has a hack for it.
With the pages set up, it isn't necessary to close threads. They will automatically 'paginate' when 50 posts are reached.
The trick is, you should see the page numbers as soon as you go to a thread (if there is more than one page). Click on the highest number even before the first page loads and you can cruise to the end that way.
When posting a reply, you may have experienced the situation where while the 'Submit Reply' window was open and you are typing away, you had to scroll down a ways to see the message you were commenting on.
Now, scroll down and see the "***Click Here To Review This Topic***"

BTW the "Flood Control" message Mombo got above was to prevent someone from posting the same messages on each forum. Basically it controls how long the system waits until the same person can post another message. I think it was set for 60 seconds.
Flood Control is turned off now; I doubt we light keepers will have to worry about Floods.

While I haven't been "flooded out" again I still can't seem to get those pink envelopes anymore. Is this just me? Are they a thing of the past?

The only way I can get the pink folders is to click on "submit preferences" every time I log onto the forums. It doesn't seem right but this is the only way I have found.

Tried it, same results. Still nothing but yellow folders. I even tried both Netscape and IE, and get the same thing. Thought it might be a browser issue.
