I have figured out how to make my signature by using HTML code but HTML code is not useable in my profile. So how do I change it so that it will come up automatically. Please use words of one syllable or less as I am a dunce. Thanks!

I can do it with each message by typing in the code, but can't make it do it automatically.

So, Mark, did you make your signature appear automatically or add it each time?

You can create a signature that is HTML, but it doesn't automatically SHOW in HTML. You can make it show up by EDITING your message - no need to actually edit it, just hit the edit button, then SUBMIT. This should make it show up correctly.

Alternatively, you can store the HTML code for your signature in a text file. Then open up the file, copy the signature and paste it in at the bottom of your message each time you post.

So what you are saying is that there is no way of putting your signature at the end of each message via your profile? I have been playing with this in the "Playroom" and have gone in and "edited" it like you said but it still just brings up the HTML code but no signature. One needs to add it to the bottom of their message every time? Am I being dense?

Correct !

The easiest is to include your profile signiture as stated above and hit the edit after it appears. Like I'm going to do right now:

Here is the above signiture line after the "edit cycle".

Now if you don't like to see the edit message appear after every edit just add the following (without the parens)at the end of all that you want to appears: *font="
where *is the less than symbol(<)

George - that works if your 'signature' is a graphic. But if it's a change in font, color, size, etc. It doesn't work. So I was wrong above.

You are actually using the UBB code, George. And although that IS permitted in signatures, images are NOT. You get around that by editing your message.

Sorry. But soon, St. Timothy will come along and clear it all up for us all.

Also, on your original posting you need to put a check in the "signature" box under the text box in the options area.

..... and then edit it again afterwards

I tried that and it didn't work either! I guess that I will make a file and then just cut and paste. I thought that there might be something easier.

hmmm, one syllable or less, eh?
ok, here goes,

"...cut and paste..."

There is no auto-magical way to get an HTML signature inserted to each message. (at least not that i know of.)

Now, we've got that out of the way, here's a round about technique to cut and paste that is particularly smurfy, but may or may not be for you...

Open Notepad and type your HTML signature text, then save it to your desktop as a text file (make sure the file extension is '.txt'). You'll get an icon of a piece of paper (or something white with lines on it). When you want to use the sig, drag the icon and drop it into the browser where you're typing your message.

The browser will open the file and you'll see the text. Click your mouse pointer once in the browser to put the focus there. Press Ctrl-A to select all the text, then press Ctrl-C to copy it. Click the back button on the browser to return to the forum message box, click the mouse in the message box where you want your signature and press Ctrl-V to paste the text into it. It takes much longer to read this message than it does to do this. If you're right-handed you can do it with one hand to drive the mouse and the other to use the keyboard and with a little practice you won't even think about it. :-)

Then again, you may think this is clunky and you'd be right about that. It is probably as simple as any other method for getting the text out of a file. And you can return to your signature text via your browser's page history - in Internet Exploder that's the little down arrow thingie on the -> (forward) button.

Then after you do this for a month or so - assuming you're still here - you'll get tired of it and do like a lot of folks and either not sign each msg, or just use text.
