We slipped past 2,000 total messages a few days back and I completely missed it. This one will be 2,037.

Some may wonder why a forum shows as having "799 Messages" when they are at the Forum Start Page, but only see a dozen or so when they go to that forum.

If you change the "Show topics from.." window, you can see more messages. Setting it at the highest choice, you should be able to see all of them.

Sometime in the future, I will be going through and purging older messages that are no longer timely.

If you see a pertinent old post that needs to be brought up to date, simply REPLY to it.

Thanks, everyone for all the good posts, good threads and nary an ill word.

John

Between 5-15-98 and 8-30-98 the forums averaged a little over 9 messages per day. Approximately 108 days to get to 1000 messages.

Since the posting of the 1000th message on 8-31-98 the next 1,037 messages came in at a rate of slightly more than 15 per day - a 40% increase in just 69 days.

Averaging out to 11½ messages a day over 177 days or approximately 345 per month.

Pretty darn good for the first 6 months and we are all to be congratulated for making the Forums a success. Would be interesting to see the figures for the AOL board over the same periods.

Do you have info on number of Forum registrants?

From the counting room in the FSB,

Yep, Tim...

292 registered to post messages on the Forums - many of whom have not yet posted. (It would take some digging to figure that one out.)

About 2,060 registered visitors at HarbourLights.com. Of course you don't need to register to use the site, so some more are probably just visiting. (Hint, hint, Tim.]

Average number of unique hosts each day between 255-428. (Peak days on Wednesdays, slowest days on the weekends.)

Number of page hits ranges 1900-3100 per day. Note that the Forums reside on www.LighthouseKeepers.com and page hits are not counted for the forums.

Is that 13 actual posts on the AOL board, or 13 posts that the AOL board censors have not pulled off after posting and before too many had read them?

Probably no way to know.

11 of these postings were inserted by the AOL zampolit to make people think the board is still active. Anyone actually bothering to read these will see they are just copies of messages left in the 'Christmas Villages' forum in 1996. Message #12 is from John Chidester telling people to come here. And the 13th post is from some guy whose aunt has a old plate with a picture of a lighthouse on it and they're trying to figure out which one it is.

Rgds,
John Erlichman, AOL Hall Monitor

I got my emailed "Pay up or else" notice from AOL yesterday. They want $239.40 for a pre-paid year's worth of access or $21.95 a month ($263.40 total if I pay monthly).

Since literally the ONLY thing I do on AOL is read the Lighthouse Collectible posts, and at the rate of 1 a day now, those posts would cost only $0.66 cents each. That includes the ones where people are asking previous posters just how MUCH they want for the Thomas Point they are selling.

And SOME of those posts are just me telling people who post replies asking how much other posters want for Thomas Point is a waste of the time of those who aren't selling that Thomas Point and instructing them HOW to click on the box and reply by E-mail instead.

Perhaps as a service to those not on AOL, I should retain my AOL service, create a new forum here called "Real Messages Copied From the AOL Board" (A part of the Lighthouse Humor Forum?). Anyone here want to contribute a dollar towards my 1999 AOL membership in order to be able to read those? No, I didn't think so. So after about 5 years and thousands of junk mail messages (and good memories of when the Lighthouse Collectibles board was REALLY great), I have just 28 days to decide whether to renew or not. Hmmm.

Steve Case [wonder if I get to retain my "Chidester" screen name if I just use the free AIM service?]

Maybe we should have a special "John's AOL funeral" party on the chat room while you make the momentous cancellation message.

If you can't get Chidester on the IM, you could always resort to St.John, MUDD, HLguru, HL.com.king, HLA#26, ArizonaKid, or just plain *TheMan*

Hey John,
Dump the greedy AOL commies and let's put them on our "endangered" list. We did months ago.
Also, a special thanks for all your efforts in providing a nicely organized and fun place for Harbour Lighters to call home.
Again, Thanks
Mike

I like Rod's idea of the on-line AOL funeral party. Maybe we can draft John's cancellation letter by committee, either in the forums or live during chat. I think we can all have a lot of fun & lively discussion over *that* topic!

December 15 marked the 3,000 message mark for these Collector Forums.

(Actually, 3,059 including 44 on an inactive Forum on Rosemont 98. I turned it back on for a few days.)

Looks like critical mass has been reached and we now have a self-sustaining communications tool for Harbour Lights collectors. Thanks everyone!

There are now 328 individuals registered to post messages (several who've never posted.) Everyone is welcome. Just click on that REGISTER hyperlink. No charge.
