Hi. I remember that last year there was a boat tour of the lighthouses in the Mac. Island area. Will that be taking place again this year? There are 3 of us who would really be interested in going. Any other info on Michigan lighthouse events would also be appreciated.
Thank you!

Hi-I received a brochure on the Lighthouse Festival in Mackinaw City. It will be August 11-13. We went last year and it was really nice. This year they have added more.
The Lighthouse Festival Cruise departs the Shepler's Ferry dock at 1:00pm on Friday & Saturday. It heads west under the bridge and lasts aboue 4 hours. Advance reservations are required, $37.50 per person, 200 seat limit per cruise. (Last year on Friday we went west and on Saturday we went east. I'm guessing they're not going east due to low water levels by Cheboygan).
Opening Festival Dinner is on Friday from 7-9:30pm at Audie's Restaurant. Guest speaker is Don Terrace, Director Lighthouse Park District, Evanston, Illinios. Advance reservation reqired, $30 per person, 100 seat limit.(We went last year, excellent food and the presentation was great, a must do. Nancy Younger was there also).
The Vendors Tent & Fun Area will be open Friday 3-7pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, and Sunday 10am-1pm. (Nancy Younger was there last year and signed a HL for our son).
NEW for this year is the Lighthouse Trolley Tour. It goes up to the Whitefish Point Lighthouse where you will visit the Great lakes Shipwreck Museum there, then down through the Hiawatha Forest to the Point Iroquois Lighthouse where you will be able to climb the tower. Departs on Saturday and Sunday at 10am. Returns around 2:30pm. Advance reservations required, $29 per adult, $19 per child, price includes museum admission & box lunch, limited to 68 seats per tour.
Lighthouse Summit 2000 Breakfast on Saturday at the Lighthouse Restaurant from 8-10am. Hosted by Representative Scott Shackelton. Advance reservations required, limited to 100 seats, Complimentary.
NEW for this year, Barbeque Dinner on Saturday 6-8pm, catered by Squeally Downings Restaurant. Advance reservations required, $12 per adult, $7 per child, Limited to 200 seats.
On Saturday from 4 - 11pm there will be live entertainment at Conkling Heritage Park.
According to the brochure reservations must be made by July 21st.
If you have some extra time you can run over and see Seulchoix Point Lighthouse or the Soo Locks is only about an hour away.

Cheryl

Got my brochure and booked my room! Can't wait to go and take my 12 y.o. foster daughter. Apparently there isn't a child's price for the cruise, so I am not sure I will take her on that. Does anyone know if refunds on the different events are possible in the event I would be bringing one less person?
About the trolley ride.....I am still deciding on that one. Will definately take in the cruise and BBQ dinner! DFD wants to climb on the rockwall! lol.

On the GLLKA cruise (Shepler's boat line) I paid $45.00 in advance. On the day of the cruise there was thick fog and the cruise was not cancelled. We were not given the option of a refund, so everyone went on the cruise west of the Mackinac bridge in the dense fog. We couldn't see anything. We almost hit Poe Reef lighthouse because the captain could see it on radar, but no one could see it until the boat was just a few feet from it. We rode around for a couple of hours. One lighthouse we couldn't find at all, others the captain decided not to travel to. We could barely make out Round Island when we were right next to it. We also went under the bridge and could only see the bridge part that we were directly under. A photo opportunity it was not. Everyone said it was a waste of $45.00. So, I would say don't plan on there being any refunds for any reason.

Thank you for the info! Gee, with there being that dense of fog, you'd think in the interest of good customer relations they'd at least have offered a refund, or tickets to another cruise/attraction as a compensation. Sounds like they didn't even give you the amount of time on the boat that you paid for.
