I Finally after many years of driving past and never stopping climbed to the top of Currituck Lighthouse. They have done a wonderful job of restoring it. From what I understand the Coast Guard kind of abandoned it and the vandals demolished the keepers house at one time. They have some early pictures of it in the museum at the base of the lighthouse. It cost $5.00 to climb it and the proceeds go to the lighthouse foundation. With 214 steps, its no walk in the park but the view is magnificent. Check this out, this is the view of the Currituck Sound as looking east. http://zuma.lib.utk.edu/lights/NC/corolla_view.jpg You can also see the ocean and all of the beach houses looking west. Sorry couldn't find that one. Another interesting thing is that there are wild horses that roam the beach in Corolla and Corova. While you probably won't see one at the lighthouse in the day you can however drive out onto the beach to Corova and surely see the wandering the town. Corova is interesting enough by itself there are no roads just sand paths and you must drive on the beach to get there. Very secluded.
