The Hoosier Lighthousing Club is having their Fifth Annual Christmas Lights Lighting at the Old Michigan City Lighthouse on December 3, 2003..All are welcome to come; we will start gathering around 2pm Michigan City time, which is Central Time or 3pm Eastern Standard Time..

We will then head over to Old Country Buffet for the annual Christmas Party after the lighting and after everybody has taken their pictures of the lighthouse!

Please RSVP to me that you are coming so we can get a head count ( It's real easy just hit reply and type in yes and the number of people then hit send)

Gift Exchange

• Everyone brings a $10 to $15 gift (or combination of items if you choose.) The gift(s) should be wrapped, but will not have a name on it. If it is male or female specific, please simply place a tag with "male" or "female" on it. If you can do so, a gender neutral gift would work best. All the gifts will be gathered in one location. If there are gender specific gifts we will have a separate pile for those.
• Gifts should have a lighthouse / nautical theme. NO Harbour Lights stuff!

Thanks,
Paul L Brady

This sounds like a lot of fun - combining lighthouses and Christmas. Too bad I'm so far away, so I'm afraid I must decline.

Thanks for the picture link... It looks brilliant fun! Do they light the actual "proper" light too?
It kind of looks like there is light on in the lantern room, but is that "THE LIGHT" or just "a light" ?

The lantern room is a replica that they added back to the lighthouse when it became a historical museum over 30 years ago.. The original lantern room was removed a long time ago when they added the Michigan City Pier Light and the house just became the keepers house only...

The original Fresnel lenses is on display in the museum.. The appearance of it being lit is created by florescent lights around the inside wall of the lantern room (controlled by a daylight sensor), we add a Christmas tree where the fresnel would sit each December..

Really neat, Paul. I am always so envious of those of you who live near lighthouses. Christmas there must be beautiful - then, I remember how everyone complains about shoveling the snow.

Actually, Grace, we have had terrible luck with snow at Michigan City - there is never any when we are there. Everyone wants pictures with snow, but it jsut hasn't worked out. They do 'enjoy' snow during the winter, just not for our lighting....

Too bad. OMC would look beautiful with a dusting of snow. Anyway, snow or not, I can't wait for you all to post pictures of the Dec. 3 event.

Image after our lighting on Saturday night.. Sue and I drove back to Indy Saturday night during a snow storm (Chad and I went to the Colts game today), but we left plenty of club members after the gift exchange at the club's party, in Michigan City, so hopefully some of them shot pictures of the lighthouse in the snow this morning..

Thanks for the beautiful picture. Hopefully, someone else will post snow pictures - those of us in the sunnier areas of the country can use a little "White Christmas". It must have been over 80 degrees yesterday - I didn't check, but it sure felt like it.

After the gift exchange Carol & I drove home. Snowed the whole trip ..... where it took 3 hrs. for us to drive to MC, the drive home was about 4-1/2 to 5 hours. It was awful .... tension headache #9. Needless to say, we were on the road and didn't take any photos of MC light with a snowy blanket.

Can't blame you, Dan. Has to be miserable having to stay so focused for the entire drive.

Naw, we just want pictures. Our temps have actually dropped and we are in the 50's and 60's as opposed to the 80's a couple of days ago. Feels a little more like Christmas should feel.

Our temp is slowly dropping - was in the 50's and 60's and expected to drop to 40's and 30's in the next couple of days. Fran, I think I'm going to meet my deadline - I set it for Dec. 7, thinking that was Thursday but it is actually Wednesday. After that, I have to totally focus on Christmas, as will everybody else!

Dani open first in the gift exchange after everybody had selected a wrapped gift. They were all put on a table and numbers were drawn for the picking order and they were taken sight un-seen until the table was cleared..

We opened the gifts one at a time around the circle of friends... Sue got a Old Salt Santa (it's on our mantle as I type)..

President Judy oped her lighthouse coasters and holder...

Looks like a Knotical present for Dan..

Last but not least Roy models his new silk lighthouse scarf....

Here are a couple of pictures I took at Michigan City early Sunday morning while the snow was still falling.

And one of the Michigan City Pierlight.
