Here's a group shot of most of the club members that came to today's meeting. You might recognize the gentleman sitting in the middle of the picture.

Bill was in rare form today, even without any sleep after a very busy traveling schedule this weekend.

Oh yea,
Think Fresnel Lens!!!!

Hey Paul! Thanks for attending out meeting yesterday. and taking pictures. This group shot is great . We all had a wonderful time visiting with you and Sue. Bill as usual gave us a HL history lesson which helped those new to lighthouses and collecting a good taste of what it is all about. Thanks again and hope to see you soon.

Here's Bill showing off the blue felt, with signature on Dave H's American Shoal lighthouse. It was Bill's first American Shoal to sign and he always writes that along with his signature, on the felt when it is his first one to sign of a new release.

There were several people from the forums at the meeting in Louisville. Pat and Dave have already posted above, maybe the others will add a little more information to this thread about the meeting. I will put up a couple of more pictures in the coming days.

Is Dave in the middle or right?

And what is that above the head of the right side person? Looks like an enlarged 'Friend of Bill' name tag.

The tag says.... DAVE

Which person in the picture is wearing a HL tee shirt with a name tag?

Duh Nobody 'splained that to me. I thought that thing above Dave's head was a large poster hanging on the wall.

The trip from Henderson to Louisville was worth it to see Bill and listen to him talk about the start up of Harbour Lights. We plan on seeing him again at Cape Hatteras but this was the first time and a treat for us.
Thanks to Pat for inviting us and making us feel like one of the rest even though it was the first time we had stepped in the door. We were a tad bit late but we made it before Paul and Sue got there
Seeing the special package Paul pulled out of the trunk of his car was a treat too. The group is able to say, "We saw it first"!!!
But I would like to know how it found it's way into Paul's trunk to begin with????
We really enjoyed ourselves and plan on making a return trip to another meeting.

John, I'm the one who really doesn't like pictures of himself. Pat really wanted to make me feel welcome, so she had a poster with my name on it so I'd know where to sit.

The very special Bill signature really made the trip extra special for me. This was the final stop on our spring break road trip - 2100 miles with a stop in Indy to pick up the American Shoal Bill signed.

I would like to thank Pat for the invitation to the meeting and all of the Louisville folks for their hospitality. Bill was very interesting and informative at the meeting. The fact that Bill was in Oregon on Saturday & then flew to Louisville for the club meeting says a lot about the man and his true interest in his collectors (not to mention lighthouses). Everyone there left with at least one door prize - one of the few times I actually won something!

The piece Medicman refers to is the 2000-20001 Society gift piece that Paul had to photograph. It is a nice light that I'm sure we will enjoy. To get the thoughts going, it starts with the letter " ".

Yeah, John, but it was fun knowing for a little while what most didn't know! At least the folks at the Louisville meeting are still among the very few who have actually been able to see the piece.

One guess as to who has captivated these people's attention. Maybe he was talking about Fresnel lenses at the moment the picture was shot or......

Bill is explaining the labeling, possible differences and what they use Artist Proofs for at Harbour Lights. He is using the AP of Southwest Reef lighthouse, which is the society gift from Harbour Lights to their collectors this year. The club got a preview view of the lighthouse.

I've been reading on the Wish List Forum about a Fresnel Lens. Perhaps this thread should be read a little closely. I think there is a hint here!

Not that good looking guy in the middle, but the one where Bill is signing the lighthouse ... Charlie is the middle of Bill and Dave in two photos up above, about the middle of the message thread

Bill did share some other interesting things at the meeting. He wouldn't let loose with any really good inside info because he didn't want to get in trouble with Kim. (Something about it would be posted in the forums before he got back to his hotel room.... HL is working on a new LH map. Will be interesting to see how it turns out.

When asked if he could name his top favorite lighthouses Bill said something to the effect (as many of us would) that they all were, but two of the ones he specifically mentioned were Thomas Point (his first lighthouse to view) and Saugerties because of its beauty, what it has surviced and the community wide efforts that have gone into saving it. He really dwelled on this thought a couple of times. I think as you read thru the forums you will notice that many have taken to heart the need to pitch in - in whatever way they can - to help preserve our lighthouse heritage.

Dave

oh yeah- so far we have fresnell; by the end of the year; beehive; brass like framework; now add resin

"So Bill how about the R word?"

Bill: "You mean that the Fresnel lens are going to be made out of Resin? Yes they are!"

"No Bill, the other R word, REUNION"

Bill: "We hope to make the announcement by Atlanta."

"You mean Rosemont don't you?

Bill: "No we hope to announce it by Atlanta."

Saint Paul what a tease you are! And what a fine photographer. For such a little camera you captured the fun of the meeting in a big way. It was a pleasure to meet Paul and Dave, names from the forum that now have faces to go with the postings. Bill was terriffic! No sign of hand cramps as he signed all the lights that all the people brought. All the lovely things people have said about him on the forum..........well he is just that friendly in person. One of my favorite "snacks" to munch on that afternon were the chocolate shaped lighthouses! It was MY question about the LENS that got Bill started and his answer was enthusiastically welcomed by all the keepers of secrets at the meeting. Paul donated some videos to our club for future meeting groups. I would suggest that all the meetings Bill speaks at in the future should be oficially recorded and saved. Those tapes, edited, could be really informative and perhaps shared from club to club.....something to think about. The 3 hour meeting time flew quickly by and after a round of door prizes we all happily headed home. Thanks Bill for all the stories and making us all feel important as friends and customers, thanks for the "challenge" to the Derby City Lights Club and thanks again Paul for the photos and posting of same. Terry

Nice to read about the great time you folks had and to see the pictures. Only one question, how come Bill wore a skirt?

Mombo,
Maybe it's his Scotch heritage and he's wearing a kilt. Or, was that too much of Paul's scotch and then he was wearing the kilt?

LOL...LOL...LOL...Bill is standing in front of the chair that has his jacket hanging off the back. We had a great time at the meeting and thanks to Paul and Terry I know it will be well documented for all to relive. I can't wait to see the pictures and video at out next HL meeting in June.
I can't think of a better way to spend the afternoon than listening to Bill Younger speak about lighthouses. And I had the pleasure of his time all alone while transporting him from/to his hotel.

Hmmmm....He needs a pair of red pumps to go with the skirt, though. Is this another aspect of "the year of surprises"? LOL.

Great pictures and a great meeting. Being my first meeting, I didn't know what to expect but I was quickly at ease and enjoyed it very much. I didn't realize what a treat was in store when Pat told me that Bill would be there for signing. I am really anxious to learn more about the group and it's activities.
