I have question for our lighthouse gurus.
Bob and I went out to see some non-Long Island (imagine that!) lighthouses this weekend. At the end of our journey, we ended up at Fayerweather Island (Black Rock Harbor) in Connecticut. It was actually pretty sad. The lower portion was covered in graffiti and the island itself had trash everywhere. I know a restoration effort was mounted in the 90s. Is there any group/individuals still associated with it?
It was a depressing way to end our mini-lighthouse adventure.

Diane - The info I came up with about this light: For information, contact: Fayerweather Island Restoration Fund c/o Burroughs Community Center 2470 Fairfield Ave. Bridgeport, CT 06605 (203) 334-0293 I would imagine someone there should be able to do something about this situation. My best, Paul Conlin ALF Secretary

Diane, you are right; it sounds terribly depressing. Please give us an update when you find out about this sad situation at Fayerweather. What about the rest of your outing? Do you have pictures? Did you go by boat? I don't know much about the area and would love to hear details.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Did you take any pics of this light showing the deplorable conditions? Bob

I took some photos, but it is hard to make out the graffiti. Suffice it to say, that anywhere on the tower that can be reached from the ground either has some graffiti or it almost looks like people scraped the paint away to put messages.
The door and windows looked intact, so hopefully there isn't any damage in the interior.
It is such a shame that so many people have so little respect for the structure and surrounding area.
