I've been missing in action (from the CF) for the last nine days. Lorna and I went to Block Island, along with my son, daughter-in-law, and two of my grandsons. Yes, my two furry sons were also with us.

As I was passing by the North Rip I noticed the Lantern Room had been removed from the North Light.I guess it must have needed some work. Anybody have any info on this subject?

Not sure what's going on. I sailed into BI a few days ago, and noticed the same thing. It was quite a shock to see it headless.

Found a few articles in the BI Times about it. But I can't figure out exactly what the renovation concerns. There doesn't seem to be any "official" website for the light.

Thanks for the links, Greg. Maybe if I'm lucky I will get out there for the relighting ceremony. Most of my Block Island visits are in June, July, and August but perhaps a mid September visit would be in order if the weather is right.

BTW, when were you in last weekend? We stopped at the Block on the way to and from Martha's Vineyard from Three Mile Harbor. We were docked at Payne's on 29 June, and anchored on 1 July.

Wonder if we were there the same time...

We arrived on June 27, and departed on July 5. We always stay at the Block Island Boat Basin. That's the Marina in front of the Oar. Tha BIBB is somewhat quieter than Champlins and Paynes.

I guess you guys weren't wearing your Wacko badges.. Your posts bring back fond memories of our stay on Block Island and the visits to the lighthouses there...

Here's a photo of the North Light at Block Island, that I took as we were passing by yesterday. I was doing 19 knots when I took the pic so it isn't perfect but it does give the viewer a look at the current status of the light. The Lantern Room will be back in place and there will be a lighting ceremony on September 15, according to the Block Island Times.
