PONCHATOULA, LA - Funeral services were held Tuesday for the last keeper of the historic Pass Manchac lighthouse. Louis H. Barbier, who was 103, died Sunday at a nursing home in Hammond. Barbier, who was a World War I veteran, worked at the lighthouse for 30 years before it was automated in the mid-1950's.

For more information on who Louis Barbier was, please see 216.46.163.97/forums/Forum23/HTML/000020.html

May his soul find eternal, restful peace.

How sad, Lamar. I sure hope he had a chance to read all of our Birthday wishes to him awhile back, and it brought him some happiness.

My condolences go out to his family.

All the more reason why "we" have to be keepers in absentia.

Smooth seas, high clouds, deep water and full sails forever, Mr. Barbier. Rest in peace.

As we extend our condolences to Mr. Barbier's family let us also remember all that he lived though in his 103 years. He served in the Great World War, saw the coming of air travel, space travel, commercial radio, television, computers. All in addition to serving his country as a light keeper. Truly, a part of history.

May he have a steady light to guide him.

Dave

This is sad news but it also is a celebration of 103 years of life.
