Nominations are open for a voting booth post on America's best known lighthouses.

Please nominate only one lighthouse per person and don't duplicate any previous nominations.

By best-known, I mean that a significant percentage of Americans would have heard of these lighthouses, not necessarily that they have visited them.

I thought for sure you were going to nominate "The little red lighthouse under the great gray bridge..." Mike

Never mind. I guess I just did.

Unfortunately too many people view "The Little Red Lighthouse" as a story book lighthouse instead of a real one. My actual first choice would have been Portland Head even though it is obvious that Cape Hatteras should be the hands down winner.

I'll keep the nominations open until 2/15 at midnight and then post a poll in the Voting Booth Forum. You'll be able to select your 3 top choices from among the nominees.

Since it has been in the news lately, how about Currituck on the outer banks.

Sorry Sheryl... Ron already nominated Currituck a few posts above yours. We'll give you another chance.

People don't realize they know the light, but Pigeon Point has shown up in more commercials and shows than most lights. Commercials that come to mind include the revolving Blazer and the Coke surfing commerical (where the light is supposedly in Maine.) By the time TV gets done with the light, most every state will be able to claim Pigeon Point as a "home" light!

Sue said that she had alaready picked SOL and I apologize for not recognizing that.

I'll go with West Quoddy, Maine.
