I found this interesting, thought others might. Confirms that the lens was removed from Point Conception.

Laura, I doubt the lens has been removed from Point Conception. It is not operating there - there are a more modern optic and a backup on the light. I would have to find my images to recall what they were using.

I believe that the CG feels the lens is about as safe in the lantern room as it would be anywhere else (or it did at one time). It would be a definite undertaking to get the lens out of the lantern, up the hill and off the property.

Did a little more looking at the list, and I wonder if it is a listing of just CG owned lights and lenses. Looking at D7, they don't show lenses at St. Augustine and Ponce. I believe both still use Fresnels, but they are both Private Aids to Navigation. St. Augustine's was the first time the CG transferred the lens to the lighthouse when they turned over the tower. Part of the deal was that the St Aug people had to maintain the lens to keep it in service.

I believe Ponce displays a third order in the lantern room. Their original first order is on display in the beautiful lens display exhibit, along with the lens from Cape Canaveral.

Good point Dave about St. Augustine and Ponce Inlet. I had seen in Lighthouse Directory that the fresnel had been removed from Point Conception.

Had not caught that one about the Point Conception lens. Don't know if anyone I know has been out there lately. It was several years ago when we visited - July 2003 according to my notes. When we visited I could have written my name on the lens it was so covered with dust.

I have been looking, trying to see where the information on Pt. Conception came from in Lighthouse Directory, thats how I came across the the CG list. Consider your self envied, I would love to see that light.
