The Danish Light Ship Laeso Rende is celebrating today. The ship is 120 years old, the "Friends of the LIghtship" group is 20 years old and the sailing club who uses the ship as their club house is 10 years old.
You can imagine the party they are having!
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the ship and the clubs! And have a great party!
Iris (lightshipfan) has a page about the ship
Laeso Rende It is in German, but I am working on a translation
But at least there are some pictures.
The ship was built in Denmark. She was launched 4th January 1887 and still has its original wooden hull. She was withdrawn from serive in 1971 and sold. For a while she served as a youth hostel until the Heikendorfer Yacht-Club purchases the ship and brings her to Germany. She finds a new home in the marina in Heikendorf near Kiel and extensice restauration work is carried out. Today she serves as the club house for the sailing club. But also as a venue for weddings etc.
I hope Iris and Dirk are having a great time at the party!
