Gee, Paul, what a novel concept: a Congressman who helps and supports the lights in his district! Think the idea might someday spread southeast?

Dave Obey is a great Congressman! Our State Senator Russ Feingold is also a lighthouse fan and conducts tours of the Apostle Island Lighthouses during his off time.

Unfortunately, there are a lot more people who could care less about lighthouses than there are people who support them. I'm sure it can be extremely difficult to spend government money (our tax dollars, actually!) on lighthouse preservation, than it would be to spend the same money on such projects as repairing or replacing bridges and roads, etc.

Sad but true...

 Bob

smile Suzanne - It's nice to know that there are some good people in government who like lighthouses and support preservation!

I'm sure you must know that I was referring to Congressman Jones from North Carolina who obviously is not a friend of the lighthouse community!

All my best,
Paul Conlin

I realize you were referring to the unfortunate misguided Jones.

I too work in Government and I support lighthouse preservation.
