As a Board member of the new organization, Keepers of Patos Light, I am pleased to inform you that this light is going to get a major refurbishment. The lighthouse, as well as the whole island, is owned by the US Bureau of Land Management. My contact at the BLM tells me that a contract has been let to make significant and necessary improvements. New paint, inside and out, a new roof, new windows and doors, gutters, downspouts, foundation work, chimney repairs and repairs to the gallery surrounding the lantern room are all included in the contract. The work is scheduled to start about May 15 and will take approximately two months to complete. My pictures below, taken last summer, show the need for some of these items.

Patos Island Light is the most northerly lighthouse on the US West Coast (excluding Alaska). Needless to say, our new "Keepers" group is delighted that our lighthouse is going to receive this much needed facelift.

Hi Larry, ...That is one great looking lighthouse. I like the unique design. If you can bring enough attention to it, it may end up as a HL some day. It would certainly look good in a collection of HL's.

Best of luck with your restoration project!

Thanks for the post and the photos. It's always great to hear about success stories and that another lighthouse will be saved from the wrecking ball!

Larry,
Good to hear that Patos Island is getting some much needed TLC. Last summer I was out there with the BLM rep from Lopez Island and he was talking about all the plans he had for the island and the light. He was upset that the Coast Guard had turned off the light without telling him. He stated that when he first saw the light after it was shut off he thought it had been vandalized, it wasn't until he called his contact with the CG to report the light was out and the solar system was taken apart, that he found out they had turned off the light. If possible please post some after photos this summer!

As far as I know, Patos Island Light is still active. Perhaps they turned it off temporarily for repairs or something.

The only way you can visit the island is by boat. However, we expect to have some special boat charters/tours this summer in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the light.

We hope to have photos of the progress of the renovations as they go along and I will try to be sure they are posted here for all to see.

That's great news - I haven't received my copy yet.

Good news about Patos!

Must be a photo that I sent in a few years ago. I didn't enter the contest this year because I didn't do much lighthousing in 2007.
