Yes, the work on the Avery Point Light has begun. Work has really been going well on the building of the new lantern room. The wooden portion of the roof has been completed and it was shipped to a place where the copper roofing will be installed. The same company who built the roof have now started working on the primary lantern room portion (where the windows will be installed.)
The contractor installed a barrier around the balustrade last week. This is to prevent any of the balusters from falling.
Jim Streeter went up to Maine last Friday and watched them pour the new blocks for the tower. First shipment is due in Groton tomorrow. Contractor will begin installing the new blocks by the end of the week.
So yes, there has been progress and work has begun.
