Lorna and I decided to take the day off and head for Cape Cod to do a little lighthousing today. My main purposes was to visit Stage Harbor Light. We followed Oseabee's directions and parked the Jeep at Harding's Beach. We walked along the beach out to the light in a stiff (about 20 knot) breeze and a very cool temperature (40 degrees). I took several digital pics and regular pics of Stage Harbor Light. Here is one of them:

We also visited Nauset Light and noticed that they have re-shingled part of the Keeper's House:

We also stopped at Chatham Light:

We also visited the Three Sisters at Nauset but only two appear in this picture. They are in super shape.

And, last but not least was Nobska Light by the entrance to Woods Hole. The sun was just getting ready to set and provided a nice soft tone to this picture:

I took 36 digital pictures and 48 regular pictures. Although it was cool today, it was a great day for lighthousing and walking on the beach.

I hope you enjoy the pics...

Bob

I'm jealous, Bob. I sure wish I could take a day and drive to see many lighthouses.

Your photography is super. And you had a super day - just the right number of fluffy white clouds against that deep blue sky.

Thanks for shooting Stage Harbor. We only saw that one from a distance in 1998.

What fabulous pictures, Bob!!!! Brought back some great memories for us! We visited these lighthouses before the Providence Reunion in 1998.

Thanks again!

Your pictures are great Bob. Wish I could have had the day off to do some lighthousing. But, I was unfortunately stuck in the labs.

Be sure to look out for the occasional open house of Stage Harbor during Cape Cod Maritime Weekend. They usually have the light open to climb every other year for that weekend. I was able to make it out there this year. If you do go make sure to watch your knees as you head out of the tower onto the top of where the lantern room used to be. It's not exactly a friendly exit. The family who owns the light are a friendly bunch and will be a great resource of information about the light. It was definitely a treat to meet some of them and climb the light.

Looks like you had a wonderful day to go lighthousing, Bob. Great pics. Especially like the Stage Harbor pic - just a little different angle and you could have had a cloud for the lantern room!

Great pictures, Bob! Thanks for sharing them with us!
They look so nice and clear! Are these digital - or scanned?
I got some of Stage Harbor last year...but I didn't have anywhere close to as nice a day as you did...it was actually quite overcast when I was there...so I had to keep looking for colorful elements in the foreground to try and brighten it up a bit. http://www.scroope.net/capecodlighthouses/stageharbor.htm
I'm sure it helps that you aren't so far away...have a little bit better choice as far as weather...I guess it's the same as me and the Long Island Lights

Nothing original to say-

The pictures are great, especially the Stage Harbor.

I got only a very distant view thru a hazy fog acroos the water at a boat ramp.

Next time i'll use the directions to walk in.

Outstanding pic of Nobska, Bob! The others are great too. You had beautiful skies to work with. Is the relection off Nobska from the "golden child"? lol

Beautiful photos, Bob! I've never been to Stage Harbor. That is for another year. What type of digital camera do you have? Ar the posted photos scanned 35mm or digital?

Thank you all for complimenting my photos. It is indeed an extreme pleasure to share them with you. I'm glad I finally took the time to learn to post pictures on the CF. Pictures are a great part of the CF.

I took those photos with my Olympus D-460 Zoom Digital Camera. It was a Christmas gift from "Lucky Lorna" last December. It is a small, easy to use digital camera.

Look for more digital lighthouse pictures from me in the future. I do enjoy taking the pics and visiting the area lights whenever I can. Yesterday was one of those days you pray for when you want to get some great pics. It is so nice when the sky, clouds, and sun cooperate.

Bob,

Same Olympus 460Z that Wayne gave me for my B'day last November! Guess I'll have to break it out to take some 'real' photos one of these days. So far I've just been using it for my Ebay auction pictures.

Your posted pictures are a very good testimonal to the quality of the digital photograph. Now if the dinosaurs like me will give up their 20+ year old Olympus OM2Ns in the 35mm format----not happening, but I can see carrying both!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures with all of us Bob. You certainly had a great day with nice clouds etc. I think it is the best picture I have ever seen of Stage Harbor and your Nobska is breathtaking.

Hi Donna, ...Great minds think alike. I have two other cameras beside the Olympus 460 Zoom. One of them is a Canon A-1 that I purchased in 1980. I was going to buy the ever-so-popular Canon AE-1 but my camera dealer talked me into buying the A-1. He called it the camera of the future. As a matter of fact he wanted to buy it back the last time I stopped in the camera store. He claims there is a demand for the body of the A-1. All I know is I've had no trouble with it and it's 21 years old, but who's counting.

Look for more digital lighthouse pics from me this winter. I really like the versatility of the digital camera.

Bob just be careful with condensation during outside shooting in the winter months. It can be deadly on the camera`s electronics.

Bob... does the lens of your digital accept filters? I have really enjoyed using various filters on mine. Thanks again for the pics!

"And the answer is..."

My Olympus 460 does not accept filters.

Cold weather can adversely effect most any type of camera, I guess. When I was originally shopping for a digital camera, I was thinking of purchasing a Sony Mavica. You know the one that takes the floppy disk directly into the camera. My camera dealer (and friend) advised that the cameras that use the floppy disk are much more prone to problems caused by condensation in cold weather. When I told him I like to shoot outdoor pictures in the winter, he advised me to buy a digital camera that utilizes the smart media card. I took his advice and let Lorna buy me the Olympus 460.

Next question, please...

Link to inexpensive Smart Media cards. I`ve bought some and they do a fine job.

Hey Terry, ... Those are great prices for the Smartmedia cards. Are they good quality?
