Paul, that's absolutely fabulous news for Fort Gratiot, for Port Huron and for the Port Huron Museum. I've been following the oft-delayed transfer from USCG and got a chance to climb my old 'home town' light just before the Reunion.
Port Huron is benefitting from the extreme generosity of the long-time a local family, the Achesons. James Acheson sold the Acheson Colloids Company a few years back and the family got over a billion in the sale.
They are redeveloping the 'south side' of Port Huron including parts of the downtown and have set aside a fund to help restore the lighthouse.
More About Acheson Ventures Edward Acheson, founder of the Acheson Colloids company, was a contemporary of Thomas Edison and
worked in Edison\'s labs . Acheson was named to the
Inventor\'s Hall of Fame in 1997.
