The Chesapeake Chapter, USLHS in partnership with the City of Annapolis and the Annapolis Maritime Museum submits its bid this week to become the new caretakers of Maryland's landmark lighthouse - Thomas Point Shoals. The Annapolis City Council voted 6-2 in favor of the proposal last night, so all is clear to submit the application. The plans would have the City take ownership and lease it to the USLHS. Several other entities have indicated an intention to submit bids, also. We know, from the Currituck mess, that justice doesn't always prevail and politics can interfere with good sense. But let's HOPE that beautiful Thomas Point Shoals can be adopted by this private/public partnership. The Chapter members have worked with the USCG on interior refurbishing in the past, and I am heading to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives in Philadelphia in 2 weeks to get fresh copies of the original drawings and plans so we have the best sources to consult. Keep your fingers crossed! --SandySea

Once the application is submitted on Friday, I hope this partnership has smooth sailing through the process. It seems like a perfect solution. Thinking only positive thoughts that they will be awarded ownership, and Annapolis leases the light to the USLHS (Chesapeake Chapter)as they plan...we know Thomas Point Shoals will be in knowlegeable, experienced and caring hands of a hard working group. Thanks Sandy! Judy ...Also a proud member of the Chesapeake Chapter of the USLHS
