How many of you are now members of the "11 points of light" club?

In two weeks, I should be.

Actually the only one of these lighthouses I have never seen is Tuckerton, which is a replica. And the article is wrong in one point - New Jersey was more than 11 lighthouses.

Bob,

I've been a member of the 110 Points Of Light Club since the Second Annual Lighthouse Challenge in 2001. I had been to most of them before that, but not during the First Lighthouse Challenge- I spent those two days at Sandy Hook as a volunteer.

I even finished after getting run over by a lady on a bicycle at Sea Girt. I still had to get to Sandy Hook and Navesink. I could hardly get out of the car by the time I got home.

Robert- imagine that a newspaper article getting the facts wrong- who would have thought that could happen. laugh

I'd say it was just edited badly.

This would lead me to believe that somebody designates only certain accessible lights will be part of the challenge?

We had the "Headlights for Lighthouses" in Massachusetts last spring. I think that group will be in Maine next year. It makes me wonder if ALF or NELL will come up with a Massachusetts Challenge one of these years. It might have to be a Southeastern, Mass./Cape Cod Lights (excluding the island lighthouses) Challenge because it would be extremely tough to cover every single light in Massachusetts in just two days.

Has anyone every done all the mainland lights in Massachusetts in a short period of time?

Bob,

I've been at it for twenty years, eight of them seriously and still haven't go to all the Massachusetts lights. If there's a record for how long it took to get it done, I may have a long shot at winning.

Let's see, Robert and I did the NJ Challenge the first time in 2001, and then again last year to get the special certificate for finishing both the Maryland and New Jersey Challenge. So, we are "twice" members.

Bob,

The idea basic behind the original NJ Lighthouse challenge was to get more people interested in lighthouses.

The people who set it up decided to get all of the land based Lighthouses in NJ involved so people could get up close and personal with the Lighthouses. It didn't include ones like Chapel Hill that are private homes it just included ones that were publiclly owned or were in the hands of a non-profit organization.

They did not include any of the Bay Lighthouses because they are not accessible easily to everyone- just people like you with a boat.

It just turned out that the number came up to 11 so that's what they went with. It never was intended to include every lighthouse in NJ.

I'm planning to at some point in the very near future to maybe do all the mainland lights. The only exception would be between New Bedford and Nobska, as I have already seen them. I have it planned for two days...we shall see.

PPM time! laugh

Me too ...

This was my first extended trip after getting reinvigorated into the lights ...

It would appear that IE6 has done alot to eliminate the popups ... but enter as you choose.
