The lighthouse, the only one operated by the Air Force, eventually will be opened to the public on a limited basis, officials said.
Isn't that great news! Thanks for the article Judy. It was nice to see that the paper had included a photo of the lantern room being put in place. So many times, this articles don't have photos and we have to imagine.

Thanks for the update Judy. We're already planning to return to GA next February or March to see Cape Canaveral and, hopefully, St. Johns and then travel to see the lights on the west coast of Florida. So glad we didn't travel to Cape Canaveral this time. It's one thing to know in advance that the lantern room is gone (Stage Harbor, MA); it's a totally different ballgame when it's in for repairs as was Cape Canaveral.

I believe it is the only lighthouse the air force has.

Thanks for the info, Judy!
I wonder how often they will have this open for visitors??? I am planning a trip to Florida in August...yuk...I know...it will be brutally hot but that is the only time my kids and wife are off from school.
I'd love to be able to visit it if it will be open to the public...all nice and fresh!
