Hi Doug! This link refers to Stony Point Lighthouse on Lake Ontario. Not sure what the current status is.

I visited it last August. Here's a photo:

I know the Mispillion River Lighthouse at Slaughter Beach Delaware is for sale along with the adjacent marina. It was placed to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This was the last wooden frame lighthouse along the Delaware Bay. It is really in need of work to be done on it

Mispillion is a real "fixer-upper". Here is a pic from 12/97..

That is a great picture of the Mispillion lighthouse. That is still what it looks like today. It has been vandalized many times. A lot of money they are asking for it

I had the chance to "find" Mispillion last November and when I walked up to the front door I noticed that the hasp and lock were ripped off the door casing so I walked in and just about went through the floor on the 5th or 6th step. That taught me a lesson about entering a dwelling uninvited.. . In any event it does have "potential" if you've got of $$$ and alot of time. As far a the vacant resturant next door (that you have to purchase, as well) I think that family who developed it went "belly up" when they tried to attract boaters and a dinner crowd. Now the "light" will suffer because one must buy them both...at an outragous price.

August Lighthouse Digest has an article stating that the Galloo Island Lighthouse is up for sale, minimum bid $50K.

I called the 800# just for the heck of it and the woman who answered said she would send me a package.

Some of you may recall that the Island sold last year for $2.5 million. Here's the story:

Here is an aerial view of the island showing the lighthouse: http://www.national-auction.com/current/lakeontario/theisland.html

And the property description form the GSA: http://propertydisposal.gsa.gov/Property/PropForSale/ShowProperty.ASP?PropertyID=78

Here you can see what the light looked like in its better days: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-cp/history/WEBLIGHTHOUSES/gallooisland.JPG

From the Invitation For Bids package:

Dimensions of property are 300' x 175' x 225' with 160' of waterfront.

An easement must be granted to the Coast Guard as the light is still active. And a weather station is there also.

However:

"There are no utility or sewer services available at the property."

"Visitors to Galloo Island are required to contact the Coast Guard prior to departure and th exercise extreme caution while visiting the property. There are no docking facilities available."

Right, it sure would make a pretty long swim!

Will be interesting to see what happens.

Bid opening for Galloo Island Light was to be today at 2pm. Additional pictures have been added to the property description report and you can see what sad shape this light station is in.

I'll try to find out what happened and report back.

Here is a copy of an email that I received in response to my inquiry about the sale of Galloo Island from the person in charge of this sale at the US GSA:

"Yes - Galloo Light did receive a high bid of $87,654. from an individual
from California - the GSA will deed the property with historic covenants,
protecting its integrity, and the USCG will have access covenants to
continue its use as a navigational aid.

The property will be restored according to the Standards of the Secretary
of the Interior, in coordination with the State Historic Preservation
Office of New York."

Sincerely,

Meta Cushing

Sounds like this is at least qualified good news, Sue. By that I mean that the new owner will have to at least restore it even if they do not allow access. Better to save it now and hope for access later. But, then again, maybe whoever bought it intends to open it.
