One can only hope. But, do you think anyone can ever trust these people? Back of my mind says "watch out for what they are setting up". After all, integrity and scrupples have never appeared to be high on their list of concerns.

I'm excited, but guarded. It sounds like they're coming to their senses, but you never know.

Part of it might have to do with the upcoming BoC election in CC. Last week, there were signs all over for the candidates. Maybe it's a big stumbling block for re-elections, and they want to get on good terms with the voters before the election.

There's also this big thing going on about a Unified Government, but I don't know what that means, and I forgot the website URL that has more info.

But it'd be nice if this all just ended. It's gotten to the whiny point, and quite frankly, I'm sick of hearing about it. Everyone has to just get on with their lives. Is the lighthouse REALLY worth this much effort? I would have seen it was a lost case a LONG time ago. As in, 2003.

It's finally over.

Currituck County, nonprofit settle disagreement about lighthouse

From the article:
Quote:

In a special meeting held Friday, Currituck County commissioners voted 3-0 to accept an agreement that recognizes that the lighthouse is immune from Currituck County land use regulation as long as the U.S. government holds an interest in the structure.

At Last!
Great for OBC, good for the county and the people of the Outer Banks - those who live there and those who visit.

Hopefully bad for those politicians who spent all that money fighting the OBC.

Hopefully it is done, but these are some very, very key words to the future.

Sounds like OBC is essentially renting the parking and potties from the county.....

I agree with that, Dave. Sometimes that fine print can do you in. Hopefully, there will be peace for a few years.

smile Congratulations to John, Melody and the entire staff of the Outer Banks Conservationists smile

The long battle is finally over. The OBC can now go on caring for this historic National Treasure. The citizens of North Carolina and the entire United States are the winners!

The Currituck Beach Lighthouse is standing tall and proud and I am happy that I got the chance to visit and climb her last year.

Job well done, OBC - the Lighthouse Community is proud of you!

All my best,
Paul Conlin
