Twenty three years ago yesterday (11-10-75), the Edmund Fitzgerald sank just short of Whitefish Point in a November gale. Lake Superior was said to have had 16 foot waves that day.

I find it very ironic that 23 years to the day, on the anniversary of the "Fitz" going down, another gale struck Michigan. The storm was basically identical, following essentially the same track. Winds in the area were reported up to 85 miles per hour, with seas expected to reach 18 to 20 feet out on the lake.

As the Edmund Fitzgerald and the shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point are thought about this time of year, I would just like to say to the families who lost loved ones at sea, that my family's thoughts and prayers are with you.
