55 degrees beckoned us for a road trip out east today. Lots of erosion surrounding the cliffs by Montauk Lighthouse but thr adjacent area to the light is stable and in good shape. The same cannot be said for Cedar Island where the penisula leading to the light has taken a beating and the width has shrunk drastically. Hopeful to post some pictures soon,
Bob

Are you trying to tell us that Cedar Island may become an actual island again, Bob?

My thoughts exactly, Bob. Still at least a 25 foot width in certain areas, but I remember a 75-100 foot width before. My observations were from the viewing area, and I did not have the time to walk out and back before the park closed. I don't ever remember seeing both sides of the penisula clearly from that vantage point. Dunes and vegatation have taken a beating.

A natural cut through the access to Cedar Point Light would have advantages and disadvantages. The biggest disadvantages would be it would limit access to the light to those with boats only, unless you don't mind a swim, and that would make things more difficult for resoration projects at the light. The biggest advantage would be less juvenile deliquents with access to the light for all the wrong reasons. Hopefully, such a natural cut wouldn't undermine the stability of the light itself,
