Last night on the chat we found out about the rebuilding of Tucker's Island Lighthouse. Not many of us present knew where it was. It was in NJ and like Morris Island, the island was washed over by a hurricane many years back. I don't know the particulars about the rebuilding, but found a site this morning that has an old photo of the light. Here is the address: www.ecoscope.com/vaughn.htm When you reach the site, scroll down to the photo. The Barnegat Bay Decoy and Baymens Museum provided the photo. Sure hope this project is a success. This light is also featured in "Lost Lighthouses" by Tim Harrison. It toppled over in 1927 and now the entire island which had once been a resort area is history. Just sent HL a list of candidates for the Gone But Not Forgotten series. Great to mention them here but if you want 'em, ya gotta tell HL too!

If any of you are into Amateur Radio, Al found this last night as he was browsing some of the bulletins online --
SPECIAL EVENT STATION. The Old Barney ARC shall be operating W2T during the International Lighthouse Activity Weekend August 19-20th, from the "Tucker's Island Lighthouse" in Tuckerton, NJ. This is a full scale replica of the Tucker's Island lighthouse which succumbed to the Atlantic back in 1927. It is the focal point of the new "Tuckerton Seaport" project which is a working seaport built to preserve, present and interpret the Baymen and their way of life. It just opened in May 2000. Operation will be from 1300z on August 19th to 0300z on August 20th, then again on August 20th from 1300-2000z. Suggested frequencies to watch are: 7265, 14265, 21365, 28465 +/- QRM. Also 146.835 -600/PL-3A and 146.52 spx. QSL via N2OO, PO Box 345, Tuckerton, NJ 08087 USA. SASE/SAE with IRC for QSL. Send 9"x12" SASE with appropriate postage/IRC's if you want a certificate with your QSL.
Well, there's another New Jersey Lighthouse to add to our travels in September
