I wonder if a game "Gone BUT Not Forgotten US Lighthouses" would get much attention?

Rules are simple.
1. Post the name of a US lighthouse that is no longer standing. No restrictions with the first and last letter of the one posted before, just a lighthouse name.
2. A photo, painting, or antique postcard of the lighthouse must be in the same post.
3. Of course, the location should be included if there is not info with the photo.
4. Limit your responses to only post one lighthouse name a day.

I for one, have been made aware of so many other lighthouses that once lit up our shores since I began collecting HL. Perhaps some of you would like to know more about this subject.

My first entry will be:

Cape Henelopen, Delaware http://www.beach-net.com/lighthousech.html

Oswego, NY Inner and Outer Harbor Lights

These were preceded by an 1822 light (no picture available). The 1822 Keepers House is, however, still standing.

The current Oswego Light
was built in 1934 on the site of the former Outer Harbor Light.

Many times this is referred to as the third light at Oswego when in fact there have been four.

This was supposed to be my Wednesday post...

Old Cheboygan Light
It's # 88

And, this quote from Linda's Lighthouse Page :
"If you are in the mood for a hike and some history, drive to the east side of Duncan Bay and visit Cheboygan State Park. There you will find a 1.3 mile trail that leads to the ruins of the Old Cheboygan Lighthouse, abandoned in the 1920's. From the beach, you can view Poe Reef Light to the northeast and Fourteen Foot Shoal Light to the northwest."

Is it time to put the Chesapeake Chapter page off limits???

You can visit a replica of Tucker's Island in Tuckerton, NJ

It's part of the Baymen's Museum. They have recreated a oldtime Bay town of NJ.

The NJLHS had there June meeting there last year.

This is a great spot...I was fortunate when I first began my quest to see as many lights as I could, to have one of the forman for the chemical company where this is located, to escort me out to the sight. You get great views from the ferry.

Hey, no fair. I thought about Price's Creek and ruled it out since the tower is still pretty much there!

Yeah, it is fair.... Some of it is still there, but the light is gone and for a lot of years, it was very forgotten. Many folks didn't even know it had ever been there.

when it got smacked into by the Great Lakes freighter, Frontenac!

Dave, if Derith says it's fair, it's fair! My previous light is "ruins only" so I wouldn't think that you would accept that one either.

(Don't you know yet that you can never expect to win an argument with a woman? And now we're ganging up on you!
