Reported by the Outer Banks Lighthouse Society... Work on the Bodie Island Lighthouse tower has begun. Inside the lighthouse workers are securing beams in preparation for the emergency repairs that the OBLHS donated $10,000 towards. The original plans to build scaffolding around the tower have been dismissed. Instead a boom truck will be sent for workers to make necessary repairs to the tower.
There are only TWO trucks in the United States that are tall enough to reach the top. The Park says that they will re-examine the way that tall lighthouses are painted! Judy
