One of the few times I can remember that it's OK to have a sign blocking our view of the lighthouse. Good news indeed digger. Jim Johnson

Its about time, they have been saying that for many years now! Its good to see some progress, even if it is just a sign for now.

I agree with Suzanne - its' about time! I'm glad they have finally begun restoration. Maybe with the museum coming to town they figured they had better get off dead center. Will look forward to the day we can visit the inside of this one-of-a-kind light.

Yes it is good news!!!! I'll be there on Sunday the 27th to check it out. Aren't they planning on making a LH Museum out of it? OMP is one of my all-time favorites!! Its been 6 years since I last visited it and she's "come along way" since then. [This message has been edited by Brent (edited 08-23-2000).]

As requested, here is a close-up of the sign. It is my understanding that instead of replacing the bricks they are going to restore them. You can "purchase" a brick for $20 (the cost to restore them). No you don't get the brick, you just pay for the restoration and you get a certificate. The old barn that used to sit at the site is also going to be restored and returned to it's original site at the lighthouse (That will mean that HL's will have to do another one showing this barn). You can "purchase" all parts of the restoration, bricks, barn, railings, etc. and if you want to get rid of your bank account you can purchase the "Light". If your going to be in the Straits area, visit the gift shop in the old fog horn building where they have all the details listed.
