If you live in Upstate New York you want to mark your calendars for "Lighthouses of the Seaway Trail" to be broadcast in June over your PBS channel.

You have a choice of three dates to view it as it will be shown in conjunction with a membership drive. It is a 90 minute program produced by the Watertown, NY PBS station. When I called my local station for information I was told it was up to the Watertown station whether they would offer it to PBS to air nationally.

The dates and times it will be shown are:

Sat, June 3rd at 2:30pm
Fri, June 9th at 9:10pm
Sun, June 11th at 9:30pm

Check you local listings in case your channel has different dates, times. Hopefully Sisters Island Lighthouse will be included!

I'll try to record it so that if anyone wants to see we could pass it around.

Here is a link to the station that is producing the program. I still plan to record it and will give a review afterwards.

Just an update on this one. I watched the program this afternoon. WOW! It was great!

The film covers 27 lights from Ogdensburg, NY west through and including the Pa. lights. Noticeably absent was Galoo Island, perhaps the new owners would not consent? I would say that the film was recorded last summer. Also not included were the bottle lights in Buffalo or the light on Grand Island, also near Buffalo.

But the rest were all beautifully covered, including our favorite, Sisters Island! Views were included both of the exteriors and the interiors. History of each light, pictures of previous lights, stories of keepers, historical events at each location, etc. were all there.

If one made a pledge of $100 during the breaks one received a complimentary copy of the tape. I will definitely be recording it during both of the succeeding time slots. (Not intending to imply that I don't support Public Television - I do. Without this station's program guide I would probably have missed this show.)

I noticed in the credits that the 1st person "thanked" was Teresa Mitchell of the Seaway Trail Association. I will call her to see if the Association will be offering copies for sale and report back.

I can't stress enough how wonderful this show was. Of course I would be a bit partial to these lights as they are close to me. But this would certainly be a welcome addition to anyone's video library, a great opportunity to see first hand, some of the lesser known lights.

Sue... it sounds like a great program to me! PBS is also airing a series called Legendary Lighthouses. This series consists of six different programs (Legendary Lighthouses of the North Atlantic, Maine, South Atlantic, Western Great Lakes, California, and Pacific Northwest). Our local PBS station (WTVI) aired Legendary Lighthouses of the South Atlantic. This program was excellent, and very informative. You may want to check your local PBS station for scheduled listings.

Tonight is the 2nd of 3 airings of this program. I will attempt to record it tonight and Sunday. The plan is to have a tape for myself and one to pass around to those interested.

If you are interested in a professional version I received the following reply from the station who has produced it:

Indeed, we have the videos on sale. They are $24.95 plus $3.50 shipping and
handling. You can secure your order with a credit card (visa or mastercard),
or you can simply mail a check to me at:

Hey Sue, ... What no DVD's? Does anyone know of Lighthouse Tapes that are now available on DVD? I can just imagine the pounding surf, fog horns, and bells coming over the home theatre system. It would certainly add to the viewing experience!

DVD? Hey, I'm lucky I can work the VCR! If you want bells and whistles, turn up the volume on your PC screensaver!

Now I have two copies and would be willing to pass one around if anyone is interested. I could send it to person 1 who could post when they're done with it and who could then send it on to the next person who wants to see it, etc.

Is this a good idea or not? I guess whoever ends up with it keeps it. Anyone want it? If so, 1st person to email me is person 1.
