Was watching an old sci-fi movie last night, called "The Final Countdown." It's about a Nimitz class carrier being sent back in time to Dec 6, 1941. At the start of the Movie you see a helicopter flyover view of a "Limo" driving down the road toward "Pearl Harbor" and at the edge of the scene was a lighthouse that may have been "Dimond Head" light.

I know of 3 movies that I have not seen listed in this post

The Deep - Nick Nolte and Jacqueline Bisset star in this one. Towards the end the top of the lighthouse is booby-trapped to blow if it climbed! It does blow! (What a shame!)

Weekend at Bernie's - This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It features Bald Head Island Lighthouse.

The Bird's II - This one was made for cable. It features Cape Lookout.

Double Jeopardy opens with a tower shot of a lighthouse on a Washington island. The way movies are these days it could be anywhere in the USA.

Was watching a movie on USA over the weekend titled, Dead Man's Curve, and it had a lighthouse in it. Most of the movie took place there. Did anyone see it and which Lighthouse was it?

I don't know the name of the lighthouse, but the movie, also known as The Curve, was filmed about two years ago in Baltimore.

I thought I'd try and put together an alphabetical summary of the movies listed to date, including information from both parts of this thread and some research into a few other internet sites. Thanks for putting all of that together.
I han nothing to do last night so I watched "Casper", and sure enough there was an incredible lighthouse scene where he and the girl sat on top of the lantern room with the light revolving looking out over the ocean at a beautiful moon. I think that it was Point Reyes Light.

Just returned from "Pokemon's First Movie"... [don't ask]

There's a lighthouse on the pier in the scene where... [never mind.]

Kind of looked like a chimney, but it wasn't animated. I mean wouldn't you think that in an ANIMATED MOVIE the lighthouse would flash? Duh - and during an ANIMATED STORM? Really!! I'm indignant!!!!

[Never mind. I feel better]

But I won't be buying kids meals at Burger King -- at least not the ones that have Pokemon characters.REALLY!! HONEST!!

[OK, I'm OK. I feel better, really.]

Just saw an advertisement on television yesterday (twice) sponsoring Puerto Rico tourism - nice picture of an unknown lighthouse included.

Well this weekend included two new Movies -- Toy Story 2 (Great, better than the original - but did't see any lighthouses.)

And "The World Is Not Enough", the latest "Oh-oh- 007" movie. Now didn't that maiden's tower where M was being held prisoner and the submarine was hidden look like a lighthouse to you? Wonder if anyone has any more information on that one?

"Holiday Inn", the Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, et al movie that introduced "White Christmas" played today on one of the local stations. There was a scene early on where either Bing or Danny was dancing on stage with either Rosemary Clooney or the other leading lady with a lighthouse painted scene in the background. Looked like Gay Head without the house -- except that the painted set also seemed to have palm trees. Go figure.

You merged two movies, John. "Holiday Inn" did introduce us to the song "White Christmas", but starred Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. I don't remember the female lead. The movie "White Christmas" had Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen.

Amazing how we can move onto other subjects, huh?

Just did a quick check and found this link. It does say that the Maiden's Tower is a lighthouse.

Well, I had to root through three search engines and drink some really thick coffee before I found it, but here is a nice picture of Kýzkulesi or The Maiden\'s Tower featured in The World is Not Enough.

Slow loader, be patient, but v. nice pic of a neat looking lighthouse. Sky looks like it was done by an Olde Dutch Master.

Too bad HL didn't do a model of this light as a tie-in with the movie - it'd make a great edition to the Int'l series.

Was watching a program tonight on the History Channel who's subjects were the Bermuda Triangle and the Great Lakes Triangle. The second half hour dealt with shipwrecks on the Great Lakes, the majority of the segment with the Edmund Fitzgerald.
There was one lighthouse shown but I don't know which one. It was mentioned that during the storm several lighthouses were out of service?

Mombo,

I did not see the show, but Whitefish Point was one light that was extinguished on the night the Fitz went down. That is likely to be one of the lights that was mentioned in conjuction with the Fitz segment, since that is where she was trying to put in to ride out the storm when she went down.

Art is right, it was Whitefish Point that went out. In fact, It was automated in 1970. Makes ya wonder just what would've happened...

You know they didn't even mention any names, just numbers, like 12 or 13 that were out, if that's possible.

They also said that the theory of the crew being taken by Martians was finally shot down. Apparently there was no evidence of bodies for a long time. Some guy said that the bodies stayed down because of the extremely cold water temperatures. It wasn't until much later when equipment enable searchers to get to the bottom that they did find some remains.

History's Mysteries gets into all these gruesome details.

We rented Thomas Crown Affair last night. In the scene where Thomas is racing his ocean-going catamaran, he rounds Romer Shoals before tipping over.

Subcategory: Beavers in advertising.

Did you see the beer commercial where the beavers fell trees so as to box in the beer truck, then haul off double-stacked cases of beer on their tails?

"Those naughty beavers."

How about that GREAT Planters nut commercial where the beaver gnaws a replica of Mr. Peanut out of a tree when the men in the commercial say "Beavers don't eat nuts". After viewing the sculpture they say "Oh, he's good!". It's a really cute commercial! I work for Nabsico so I've seen this one a million times.

Does this count? Last night on the Simpson's, The episode where they are staying at Mr Burn's house while he is out of town and Homer is taking Mr Burn's yacht out to international waters for a party, he bumps a jetty with a lighthouse at the end of it. More clues to the location of Springfield. Can't be the one I live in, no international waters or lighthouses close to here. No nuclear power plants either.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not, but saw a lighthouse in the Christmas classic, White Christmas over the past holiday. I don't ever remember seeing it before.

Well if Orv's post about the Simpsons counts, then do not forget two other episodes with Lighthouses. One has Bart seeing Rev. Lovejoy's daughter for the first time and she is surrounded by a glow shining in the window. The camera pans out of the building and you see the "Sea Captain" and another guy on top of a lighthouse. The other guy asks "Wouldn't the light work better if it was pointed out to sea?" The "Sea Captain" replies, "That it would, but I hate the sea and everything in it." over his shoulder you see a freighter crashing on the rocks.
In the second episode, Homer is looking for his soulmate. After walking around town Homer ends up on the beach and sees the light from the lighthouse and decides to befriend the lonely lightkeeper. When he gets to the lighthouse, there is a sign that says "This Light kept by E.A.R.L." Homer thinks his new friend's name is Earl. E.A.R.L. stand for Electirc Automated Robotic Light. When Homer finds out the lighthouse is empty, he gets mad and smashes the light. Marge shows up and together they relace the bulb, but not in time to keep a ship full of "Hot pants" from hitting the rocks.

Anybody catch "Antiques Roadshow" from Birmingham, Alabama on PBS tonight? One couple was having an item appraised. "She" was wearing a shirt that had a lighthouse on it and the appraiser dude was wearing what appeared to be Paul's shirt!

Not a movie but a Walmart commercial for photography developing - Morris Island. It's a very nice commercial depicting a couple on vacation and you see Morris Island in the background.

Saw "The Nephew" on our return flight from Belgium and it was filmed in Ireland. I tried to find the name of the light but couldn't. It was in many scenes and two of the characters spent sometime up in the lantern room. Pierce Brosnan was also in the movie.

I saw a movie last week on HBO with Cindy Crawford and William Baldwin, the name of the movie escapes me. Anyway, there were some really good shots of the Cape Florida Lighthouse at night with the lantern gleaming brilliantly.

Hi,

Saw the movie Double Jeopardy last weekend and just found out the name of the light that was the first image you saw in the movie. Ashley Judd said they were on Whidby Island, WA in some of her dialog but the lighthouse is Sheringham Point Lighthouse on the South side of Vancouver Island in British Columbia.

Not a movie, but it was on TV.

Sitting at home on a Saturday night is not my favorite thing to do, but when I'm on call I do, because the minute I go somewhere the pager goes off. So I was watching "Early Edition," on CBS when I noticed that the pictures hanging around the door of the Bar's office were of lighthouses. One can make out Cape Hatteras, quite well in one of the pictures.

I saw a movie on the plane on my way to my Left coast LH trek (got to 21 1/2 LH's and 4 faux LH's) . The movie was "Snow Falling On Cedars". It was set in Washington state just after WWII and took place on an unidentified island in a possibly fictional county of San Pedro somewhere in what I believe is the San Juan De Fuca straits. It's hard to follow small things on a screen several seats away. The LH was shown shortly two different times and I could not place it, but I'm not knowledgeable about WA LH's (if it is even realy a LH in WA). The story line is resolved by information gleaned from the records of the LH kept by the Coast Guard members stationed there. Does anyone know the answer to this long question- Which LH is it ? I checked the link index of WA LH's and did not find it, but as I said I was a few seats away and it was not on screen for long. I suspect that it is not really a WA LH as I could find none listed as being in San Pedro county, but that might be a fictional county. I did find a San Juan county, but that LH did not look familiar. Hopefully someone who got a better look at the movie can answer the question Thanks, Dennis

I have solved my own mystery. I rented the DVD last night and went thru the movie and got a good lok at the LH- I was confused. It seemed to be a dead ringer for Portland Head, ME. I checked the info on the DVD about where things were filmed and went to the Universal website and went to the forum about Sno Falling On Cedars and after searching I found a post that indicated that the LH was filmed in Maine. It is Portland Head. I only doubted it after looking because I thought it was all filmed on the west coast. The setting is fictional, but based on true situations that occurred during the period of time before, during and after WWII. It is a very good movie. It deals with the subject with sensitivity. It does continue some stereotypes, but i think part of that is it's attempt to be true to the time in which it is set. So add another movie to the list that have showcased Portland Head. Dennis

The Perfect Storm.

Went to the movies today and saw the coming attractions for THE PERFECT STORM. It takes place in Gloucester, MA, and quickly showed a white lighthouse, with I think, a black lantern room. Can't be sure which one it is as it was so fast. I saw a documentary regarding this terrible storm and the Andrea Gail on Discovery Channel. It will be shown again on the Discovery Channel on June 26 at 9 p.m. The website to the movie has an excerpt from the book and also information on the Coast Guard. After the movie ads are loaded, you can enter the site. There's also a website regarding the Andrea Gail

I only hope the movie is half as good as the book and not ruined by too many CGFX (computer-generated special effects)...

Joanne: Eastern Point is in Gloucester and 10 Pound Island is on an island in the harbor but then with movies you never know what you'll get! I keep forgetting I've got this book to read. Saw that documentary a couple times.

My husband & I rented the movie "Snow Falling on Ceders." It opened showing the Portland Head, Me. but the story was really taking place in the state of Washington. The movie is very good and thought provoking. Dated in the time of the 1940-1950's around the time Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. I'm not sure why they chose an east coast lighthouse when there are so many west coast lighthouses to choose from, however, the picture of the Portland Head was very beautiful with all the snow. And by the way, the movie is well worth watching. It's probably a 2 hankie movie.

My son was watching Scooby-Doo and I noticed an episode that had a lighthouse in it. It is called "A Clue For Scooby-Doo". It dealt with the sea and shipwrecks. It was an episode that was playing on "The Cartoon Network" (OK, I was watching it too!)

I was watching one of Clint Eastwood's movies the other night and it had a lighthouse in it. The movie was "Sudden Impact" and the lighthouse looked to be on a cliff possibly in northern California or farther north. Maybe someone who has seen this movie can identify which one this is!

There was a program on the Travel Channel this evening entitled "Haunted Lighthouses." It was a very good program showing those lighthouses in Maryland, Maine, Michigan and Ohio that are haunted. The story of these ghost inhabited lights was told along with interviews of various different eye-witnesses.
