Take this link to read an article in today's Charlotte Observer newspaper about the events this weekend at Cape Hatteras. This is the weekend that the new memorial to the Hatteras Keeper's will be dedicated, as well as the rededication of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

They kept the light shining

Enjoy the read,
Rick

Thanks Rick,
Much interesting reading and so overdue. I bet it will be one homecoming to remember.

Thanks, Rick. Your post kind of closed a loop for us.

We drove up through the Outer Banks in April, and of course stopped by Cape Hatteras Light. We were there too late in the day to climb the tower; it closes at 2PM until after Memorial Day. But we visited the museum and bookstore in the keepers' dwellings, and then walked to the shore along what appeared to be the relocation route. So we just happened upon the keeper's memorial; a plaque already in place told us about it. It appears to be positioned right at the light's previous location.

If twelve hundred people attended the dedication, that would be a stark contrast to the day we visited - there were maybe 12 people.

Anyway, it was nice to get the background detail from the website you linked us to.
