"wheat or straw"...hmmm...I think I like it more white. But it's not like Hereford is high up on my favorite list after the outrageous price you pay to not even be able to go in the lantern! And when I went there, I asked if the tower was open, after rumours I had heard earlier on the tour. The people said yes, with no mention to the lantern's closing. We paid up, then touredthe building, which is not much of anyting. They haqve the whole thing roped off, and when we got to the watch room, there was a padlock on the lantern door. What a waste of money! Plus, I had to check my camera because my flash might damage the "historical objects". I think they are super control-freaks there!

Tell us how you REALLY feel Seagirt laugh

Actually the one time I did the tour, the lantern was open and I somehow was let in with not one, but TWO cameras hanging around my neck!

Well, I had been to Hereford twice before, in 99 and on "New Jersey Lighthouse 2000" (the original challenge) and was allowed into the tower both times. However, they said that the USCG installed a "rotating lens" as opposed to the original fixed one, and now it was unsafe for people to go up there. Then tell us that when we pay! That put Hereford toward the bottom of my hospitality list!!! O yea, and they used to have this thing in the movie about a ghost story, but now that they are on SOME register, they can only tell us PROVEN FACTS. Yeah right!!! I could go on and on...

Seagirt,

You are 100% right and true. Hereford USED TO BE my favorite light. Now, its between East Point and Seagirt. I can always expect East Point to be closed until restoration is completed. The staff at Seagirt are very knowledgable and pleasant.
