Today at the Navesink Twin Lights in New Jersey, a Second DAy Unveiling of the Southeastern Lighthouses Commemorative Stamps Ceremony was held. The Ceremony got underway just after 11AM. Brian Sheeran, Postmaster, Highlands, NJ was the emcee for the day. The South River Girl Scouts got things going with the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. Guest speakers included Tom Laverty, curator at Navesink Twin Lights and the President of the New Jersey Lighthouse Society, Howard Koslow creator of the lighthouse stamps, William Wright who is the son and grandson of lighthouse keepers of lighthouses from NJ to CT and a couple of the Girl Scouts who spoke about how their troop earned their Lighthouse History Badges. After all was said and done, extra large images of the stamps were unveiled to the audience. After the ceremony guests were treated to lunch underneath a tent set up for the day on the grounds and people lined up to have the speakers of the day sign their programs or to have Howard Koslow sign their stamps or commemorative caches that were available. The crowd was not as large at the crowd that attended the Cape Henry ceremony I went to earlier this year, but it was still a great turn out. And the weather was perfect! I even managed to get a bit of color today. As always, here are some photos of the day. Tom Laverty speaking about the lighthouse with Howard Koslow to his right. Howard Koslow signing caches. Details of the stairs in the tower.

I enjoyed your photos of Navasink, Shirin! Much prettier than the stormy day I was there. Did you get your caches signed by Howard Koslow? I have one of those giant stamp posters you talked about! It was given to me at Tybee, and I'll probably do something with it at the Keeper's Dinner in October. Thanks for once again taking us along on your journey. Judy

No, I didn't get my caches signed by Howard Koslow. Just a sheet of the stamps. I liked the chachets without any writing on them. I did pick up a set of 5 available that day. Each had a silk screened image of each lighthouse from the stamp series, the matching stamp and a special cancellation for the Navesink event. I'll have to scan one this evening to show everyone.
