We've had some great discussion on lighthouses lately, and some great opinions were shared amongst the CF members.

Harbour Lights has never made a limited edition green-colored lighthouse. Can you imagine how a green lighthouse would stand out in our collections.

Do you know of a solid green lighthouse? Do you know of a lighthouse with a broad green stripe? If you do, post a picture if you have one. If no picture is readily available, name that light and post a link to where it can be seen on the Net. Green lantern rooms don't count!

Here's one Bob!

And here's another one Larry posted. Kind of ugly, imo, but it is green!

Check the photos here for the Haulbowline Range Lights, Culmore and Ballynagard lights and you'll see a bit more of the green!

Here you have North Bull and North Bank plus one with a green lantern and a green door.

While searching the web trying to identify a thimble lighthouse, I discovered a green lighthouse in Italy. Look up Malamocco Molo Nord

We know at least two:

Helsingoer Havn Light, Denmark C1914

This one we have on stamp!

And then there is:
Fredrickshavn, Denmark

Both these weblinks are to a friend's site.

The only one we have actually seen ...

... is the South Light at Geestemünde, Bremerhaven in Germany. The weblink is back to Jens and Anke, as they have better pictures, than ours. Ours was taken with the old camera.

Although the Statue of Liberty is a very well done HL, I just can't accept it as a true lighthouse. Same thing applies to the Colossus of Rhodes.

I would like to see Harbour Lights replicate a green lighthouse. It doesn't have to be all green. It could have a broad green stripe on a white lighthouse. Just think about how that would stand out in our collections when it's on display.

cool Bob cool

For a time in the 1800's, the Statue of Liberty was considered by the Lighthouse Board an official aid to navigation in New York Harbor. Although not a "lighthouse" in constuction, it still served the same purpose and was deemed as such.

I have quite a few with green trim, Pt Bonita, Yerba Buena, Cape Arago, Sunken Rock, but none with a green tower, band, or stripe. Maybe we could encourage someone to paint at tower green long enough for HL to produce a new variation. Probably wouldn't want to use an active aid to navigation light. Or, maybe Boston Harbor for next St Patrick's Day???

The Statue of Liberty is a true lighthouse, as much as any other lighthouse that was run by the U.S. Government. Some say the light was not the brightest...well many others had the same complaint. Some say it does not look like a lighthouse...well many others also fit that desciption. Of course currently it is only an aid to navigation...again so are some of the other lighthouses we know and love.

Also note that the light was improved over time.
