Good news for those of you in the area and interested in taking a look inside the Tarrytown lighthouse. Dates have been set for 3 tours in the next 3 months.

All tours are on Saturdays at 2PM. The dates are: April 20, May 11 and June 8. Call 914-864-7177 for reservations. Advanced reservations will be required due to the limited space within the lighthouse.

This program is getting back on its feet and is testing the waters with these first few tours. Also, if anyone is interested in volunteering to give tours, please contact Sara Cashen at the number above. Once more volunteers become available, hopefully the light will be opened on a more regular basis. I'll be sure to keep you updated. I've been waiting for the program to start back for the longest time now and I'm excited about giving tours sometime in the near future.

That's good news Shirin.

I think I'll wait for your tour and give others a chance to take a tour since I was lucky enough to take one a couple of years ago.

Good news all,

Tours of the Tarrytown light (which is almost never open to the public) will be held on the following dates in conjunction with a jazz concert series at the Kingsland Point Park in Tarrytown, New York.

July 11, July 25 and August 8

The lighthouse will be open 5:30 - 7:30 PM

OK, guys and gals, this means sunset shots!!!!!

I've volunteered to be there during each time slot so I hope to see some familiar faces!!! If you need directions or more information please let me know.

The first of the 3 evening open house tours was held this evening. We had a great turn out with many people who had never been inside the lighthouse and were delighted that this was finally their chance to get inside.

NELL members Ron and Mary Jane Foster, Ron Drummer and Tom and Arlene Pregman all made the trek from Connecticut to see the light.

Here's a picture prior to visitors making it out to the light.

I'm sure more pictures will follow. The NELL crew seemed to be taking pictures constantly while they were at the light.

Great framing on the pic, Shirin. Glad you had a good turnout for the tours. Hope that you were able to generate some new communit interest in the light.

Hey...I think I see my car up on the Tappan Zee Bridge !!!
Seriously..as someone that passes that light quite often from the bridge, it's nice to see it up close from the "ground level". Thanks for the post, Shirin.

Very nice photo Shirin. Thank you for sharing it with all of us.

MJ and I had a great time during our visit. It was a beautiful day, wonderfully kept lighthouse (with period furniture inside), great friends and a memorable day. Thank you Shirin, for letting us know about the opening of the lighthouse and for your special tour.

I am not making any promises on posting some of the pictures I took. Since PhotoPoint crumbled I have not found a satisfactory place to store them for use on these forums.

If anyone knows of a site that lets you store images and then allows you to post one image at a time (vice just a link to an entire album) please let me know.

If any of you are able to make the next two dates when Tarrytown Light will be open you should make it a point to go. It is such a nice lighthouse (after having said this I can't think of any light that is not nice to visit). The County has done a great job with keeping this jewel shining inside and out.

Shirin,
Do you have any dates for later in August and in September yet? I'll be on vacation for 7/25 and anniversary dinner is 8/8 so unless there any different dates I'm out of luck.

Chuck, I will have to look into the possibility of more tours for the fall. I'll check with the tour coordinator and get back to you.

Ron and others looking for somewhere to link their photos. . here is your opportunity

This won't give you the fancy interfaces and albums and such, but it will present a reasonably priced place to park your pictures so you can link to them for others to enjoy them. Hopefully, Lighthousekeepers will be here for a while...

Two more pics from the second of three open house sessions at the lighthouse. There was hardly anyone there tonight as compared to two weeks ago when we had over 150 guests.

Yet another chance to tour this light. This time is is September 21st at 2PM. Call to make your reservations. 914-864-7177. Tours last about 50 minutes. Sara Cashen from the Westchester County Parks will be leading this tour.

For directions see Tarrytown Directions

Also, hopefully in the near future, this lighthouse will be a part of the USLHS Passport program. I am in the process of trying to create a stamp for it. I'll let you know when the stamp will be available.

Just got the stamp in for the USLHS passports and thought I would share what it will look like. I've englarged it so that it is easier to see but the real stamp will fit into one square of the passports.

Clubphoto.com actually made the stamp based on the following picture.

It took less than the 10 days they told me it would take, costs around $23 and in my opinion is an easy and not too expensive way for lighthouses to begin to participate in the passport program.

Now I'll just have to get the stamp over to the lighthouse so that those who will be attending the September 21st tours will be able to get their passports stamped if they have them.

Shirin, Can I get my lighthouse passport stamped any day at Tarrytown, or just when the lighthouse is open for tours?
