Here are just a few photos I took during my very first lighthouse trip. The first photo is of a fourth order lens in the museum at St. Augustine, the second is Ponce Inlet, and the third is St. Augustine.

The museum gave the history of the lens as being not from the original tower at St. Augustine. When they tore down that tower, the St. Augustine lens was removed and placed into another lighthouse, which is unknown. This lens is being loaned to the museum from the Coast Guard. Its origin is not known, but it was recovered after being hidden during the civil war.

Nice photos, Joanne, especially the one of St. Augustine. Looking at the lighthouses and lens, it occurred to me once again how beauty and utility were once so well integrated. Seems that we find that very seldom today. It makes preservation all the more important. Thanks for posting the pics.

Great shots Joanne, if you liked St. Augie's forth order lens, I hate you missed out on Ponces first and I believe third order lens.

Thanks for sharing, Joanne. Looks like you had a beautiful day to go lighthousing. And, it's about time you finally got to a real one! You picked some real beauts to start with - St. Augie has been so well maintained and Ponce has absolutely the best lense display.

Great photos Joanne! I usually get to visit St. Augustine every summer with my girlfriend's family and your pictures are definitely getting me excited about going there again.

Thanks for the photos. Now where is the LH in relation to the Fort?

Well, Bob, since you asked about the fort, I'll post a picture I took from Fort San Marcos. I'll try to figure out on the map, if it has a scale, exactly how many miles it is between the two.

Nice photos Joanne, thanks. It's nice to see one of Ponce Inlet that doesn't have I.O.'s friend Frank in the way. (He was there last Jan. and couldn't seem to get the guy out of his pictures!)

Amazing how nice the lenses always seem to turn out.
