When Michael and I visited South Carolina a few years back---part of our Outer Banks/Southern Lights trip---we walked down to the Beach where Morris Island Light is most visible. I remember being amazed that the tower was still standing (straight up, no less).

Glad to see that the preservation effort has gone from drawing board to action.

Outstanding!!! Haven't had a chance to visit the Carolinas yet, and I was worried that by the time I made it, the Morris Island Light might be gone. Now I'm really looking forward to going. Maybe that will be our trip next year....

So Bill, where is that beach with the best view that you are talking about? I might head over that way while I'm in Georgia around Thanksgiving.

The best views of Morris Island are from Folly Beach. Its pretty easy to get to.

Shirin,

Here's a link with a map of the area for both Sullivan's Island and Morris Island.

http://www.bansemer.com/nc-lighthouses/morris_island_lighthouse.htm

You just take 171 to the end in folly Beach, turn left and go to the end of the road.

Just before the barrier (about 200 yards) is a little parking area. You then walk about 1/4 mile past the old Coast Guard station and down to the beach.

You are right next to Morris Island and you can see Sullivan's Island across the Harbor. It's more difficult to see Morris Island from Sullivan's Island.

You can see both of them on the boat trip out to Ft. Sumter.

Yeah, I think it was Folly Beach. We had to park our car and walk a bit through some ever-shifting sand...but it wasn't too bad.

We did that walk in 95 degree sunshine. Whew! It was brutal.
