While reading about the Verona Beach Lighthouse on Oneida Lake in Central NY, I have run across terminology I am unfamiliar with!! Can any one offer an explanation?? The reference reads: "Initially the Verona Beach Lighthouse was adorned with occulting white lights of 1500 candlepower." What does the term "occulting white lights" refer to? I'm pretty sure it does NOT refer to any paranormal sightings!! Thanks!! Rick

Lights that are "off" longer than they are "on" are called flashing lights. Occulting lights are "on" as long as - or longer than - they are "off." Webmaster@LighthouseKeepers.com
