I was recently in Atlantic City trying to get a good shot of Absecon and realized that is very difficult. Too many buildings and power lines no matter where you go. Coney Island has a similar problem.
I was wondering what other lighthouses are so "urbanized" that photographing them is difficult.

Coney Island from the beach was not a problem.

Fenwick Island DE is kind of hard to get a photo of without the telephone wires, but an ultra wide angle lens and/ore shooting from the 'back' alley works.

The Portsmouth Lightship, unless it has been moved since I saw it in 2000 is in a very cramped area and very difficult to get any sort of decent picture.

No matter where you go to take a photo of Bolivar, you get the power lines in the picture. The only way to really rectify that is to go over to the fort on the other side of Rte. 87, but then you get a shot of the huge Stewart Beach billboard right smack in front of it. You have to get a little creative, and shooting it at sunset helps.

I've never been there, but my brother sent me his pictures of the light in Biloxi, Mississippi. I'm betting that it's pretty hard to photograph cleanly, being that it's in the middle of the street! eek

What really bugs me more about Absecon than the buildings and power lines, is that darn chain-link fence!

Larry, when we were there prior to the reunion last year they were just finishing up construction on the keepers house and by the looks of the chain link fence it appeared to be a temporary construction fence, hopefully it will either come down or be replaced with something more pleasing to the eye like a wrought iron fence

Hey Mark - isn't there a lighthouse along Lake Michigan in Gary that's practically impossible to locate except from the water?

Mark - the Portsmouth Lightship is now totally covered with a tarp so the cramped space is the least of the issues in getting a good picture. The ship is undergoing rennovations and will hopefully be back to normal next year. I was just in the area a few weeks ago and it drove everyone at the lighthouse meeting nuts since this was one of the 3 lightships many of us needed to see for the 40+3 club for the Chesapeake Chapter USLHS.

I will have to post my FIXED pic of Abscecon Lighthouse.

My wife saw it and said it was ugly because of the old high rise apartments and power lines. So I fixed it. A little cut here and a little past there, some sharpening, and an hour and half later... wahlah! The area surrounding the light has been DE-urbanized.

Nice picture, Bruce! My problem is that I don't know what light it is. I'm sure you can help!

Picture is on Fenwick - from the street in front? and probably cropped and maybe edited? The "back alley" John refers to is the middle of a trailer park (as I recall not the world's best looking park...)

That's Fenwick from the alley with a wide-angle lens. I don't think there's any editing. The trailer park would be to your left several yards.

As I recall, the trailer park (or at least part of it) was about 6 inches behind me when I took the shot. I stood back as far as possible without trampling someone's flowers.

I cropped it to eliminate some lower foreground and "keystoned" it to reduce the distortion from shooting upward.
