There was an article in the local paper (The Enterprise, St. Mary's County Maryland - Feb 22, 2008) that the Point No Point Lighthouse auction has been canceled by the GSA because the Navy is concerned about protecting its air space. The lighthouse sits on the border of the test range, and they feel that any habitable use could be dangerous and unadvisable.

The auction was only for the lighthouse and not the caisson or the ground under it. The highest bid was $135,000, and some bidders were thinking about turning it into a B&B. There is probably lead paint and asbestos present.

There is some talk of the county taking over the lighthouse, but some of the county commissioners are not in favor.
