The United States Lighthouse Society offers a 'Lighthouse Passport'. This passport-like booklet has space for rubber stamps that individual lighthouses have on hand.

The idea is when you get your passport filled, you receive an embroidered patch that says "I've Seen The Light".

The cost of the passport is $7.50 which includes a list of participating lighthouses.

Among the participating lighthouses are Amelia Island and Point Fermin. Both of these lighthouses are off-limits to visitors. I wonder how one would go about getting a stamp at these lighthouses?

Anyone participate in this program?

For those who want to order the passport, Send $7.50 to the USLHS, 244 Kearny St, 5th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94108.

If I can remember correctly, when I joined the U.S. Lighthouse Society at the level of District Inspector, I believe I received the passport as a gift. Whether I purchased it or not, I put it in one of my display cabinets. I always forget to take it along on my trips to get it signed. I guess the main reason is, I go to a lot of the lighthouses during what would be called the off season and there isn't anyone else around but us. Since I am going on a couple of trips this summer I will try to remember to take it and see what happens.

John, if you order the passport do you also get a list of all the participating lighthouses? Sounds like fun anyway, does any of the proceeds go to lighthouse preservation??

I have the USLHS Passport. Got it last year at Big Sable. Used it throughtout the past year in my travels, picked up about 13 or so stamps. Some are good about correctly sizing the stamp and having a nice representation of their light. Some are not too cool. Couple were so tacky I wouldn't let them stamp my book. Along those lines, I have decided it best to ask if I may have the stamp to actually place it in my passport neatly rather than just slapping it on the page.

There are some really nice stamps at the lights. Couple lights had you wear a sticker when on the grounds, and I have kept those in the book. Have stamps from some lights that don't actually participate in the program. The stamps are located in a variety of places, sometimes at the gift shop sometimes with a gate-keeper. Even Fort Gratiot is supposed to have a stamp!

Here is an on-line listing from one of my favorite sites (other than here, of course)

I keep my passport in my camera bag so I have it with me. It provides an extra little souvenir of each light that stamps. Oh, by the way, part of the deal is that you are supposed to donate $1 to the light's preservation fund in exchange for receiving the stamp.

OK, how did my post end up walking on top of KAT's?? Lost the first paragraph also.

It said that I purchased the passport last year at Big Sable and have used it in my various travels since then.

Sorry about my intrusion KAT. Didn't think anyone less than a Saint had those kind of powers.

I hadn't heard about the lighthouse passport program until these postings. I've been doing the NPS passports since '87 and it's been fun. I'm going to look into this as well.

I have a passport but keep forgetting it. I now have about a dozen slips of paper with the stamp on it stuffed into the passport. I like Dave's idea of putting it in the camra bag. I never forget the camera!
