New Point Loma. There have been society editions from the second and third reunions. New Point Loma is a favorite light of mine and to get my hands on a Harbour Light Edition, I would have to take out a small loan. Just a wish of mine.....

Sounds good to me. A few weeks back we were watching golf on TV. All of a sudden I saw a lighthouse. The tournament was in California, in Carlsbad. I thought it was a bit of a strange looking light for CA but I had completely forgotten about New Point Loma. When I checked it out on the web, sure enough, that was the one so it must be near a golf course.

I don't think there's a golf course anywhere near New Point Loma. Sean will confirm this.

As for a future GLOW of NPL, that was ruled out by Kim Andrews at the time of the Reunion 97.

The idea of a Society version of the Reunion Exclusive originated with a group of connected collectors before the 1998 reunion.

I'm sure it was the Buick Open at Torrey Pines. Torrey Pines golf course is located just north of San Diego in La Jolla. I played the course two years ago.

Was the lighthouse in the background during some of the golf shots or did the cameras cut away to it going to a commercial?

If you watch a New England Patriots home football game you will often see the cameras cut away to scenes in Boston even though the scene they're going to is over thirty miles from the stadium. People recognize Boston but not Foxboro. Could this be what was happening?

You've make a good point Bob. I've watched many a games where the camera will zoom into an object up to 45 miles away. Pretty impressive really. Wish my zoom lens could do that.

There's two golf tournaments that come to mind that have prominent lighthouses. The one at Hilton Head where the LH is right behind the 18th green(across the harbor)which is held after the Masters in April, and the British Open which has several courses on the coast with lighthouse prominently in the backgrounds.

Your right John, there is no golf course near NPL. Torrey Pines is North of Lajolla which is at least 15 miles to the North on Point Loma.

Well I know it was a lighthouse and I know it was Point Loma as there's no other light in Ca that looks like it right? When I looked at my map Carlsbad was on the northern part of the bay. I don't believe the light was shown in the background during any golf shots so it must have been "what Bob said". I probably wasn't paying attention to what was being said during the shot. Maybe they said something like, "Just 15 miles from here is this beautiful lighthouse".

The real question should be, "Why didn't they use the great camera zooming technology to check in on Black's Beach?".

A golf course near the NPL light would be a very long, narrow course with lots of up hill / down hill kinda holes, I would think. Besides, the powers would probably not take well to playing thru the National Cemetery or the Navy's Electronic Warfare Training Center on top of the ridge.

Been there to school.

You need someone to caddy your golf clubs or your keg?

Do you have a golf bag like Rodney Dangerfield had in Caddyshack Mombo?

Didn't it have a built in bar!?!?

As usual a simple posting has my two of my favorite? forumites picking on me. No, there's no keg, no bar. Haven't you guys heard of the 19th hole?

We have strayed very far from the original topic. Best you should direct your comments to the original thought....

Isn't that the way it usually goes Mombo?

Hey Dave, it looks like we do have something in common!

The light you are are talking about Mombo is Point Pinos... it is on the golf course... http://lighthousegetaway.com/lights/calif4.html
It looks exactly like Old Point Loma...Gee I didn't think I would ever be able to give out info here because all of you are so much more knowledgable than me...

Thanks Ruthie but it wasn't Old Point Loma. It was New Point Loma!

It was an aerial shot facing the ocean so you could see the tower and all the associated buildings.

It seems really strange that they would show New Point Loma when they are in Carlsbad since it is about 35 miles away. But if you say that's what it was I bow to your knowledge and the fact that I didn't see it.
