OK, maybe this lighthouse only means something to me, since I grew up just down the road from it, but take a look anyway, please?

As a child, and into my 20's for that matter, I took this lighthouse for granted, because I saw it everyday. I don't know, maybe I thought everyone had lighthouses down the street.

Anyway, there aren't too many lighthouses here in Dallas, TX, and I really realize what I miss. Maybe if it becomes a HL, I can carry a bit of it with me.

It's definitely a candidate in my book. I like the 'portholes' in the tower; they're different.

Originally, the tower much shorter. When they wanted to make it taller, they just took the original lighthouse and set it on a new tower. Kinda different.

Thanks for making the hyperlink for me, Lamar!

Jeff,
Here is a link to help with how to make working links- I printed it out some time ago and keep it handy as a reference. Once you get it figured out its really pretty easy.

We stopped at North Point on the way back from lighthousing Lake Superior in Aug 98. Very pretty setting, right in town. You sure had a nice neighborhood to grow up in! The light kinda looks like a collapsable- drop the top half down inside the bottom half for easy winter storage. LOL. Seem to remember reading that they did do pretty much the reverse of that when they heightened the tower.

My home town is Milwaukee (Glendale) Wi.
and this lighthouse sure looks familiar.
It is at the end of a golf course in Lake
Park off Lake Shore Drive area, an area
of really nice big old homes. There is a
bridge over a ravine guarded by stone
lions. It is too bad this park, like
others in Milwaukee, is now suffering
from vandalism. I sure hope the
Lighthouse has not suffered, as I have
not been there in about l0 years. Your
attached write-up mentions the light is
at the entrance of the Milwaukee River into Lake
Michigan. I think the river is quite a
ways south of there. The light was put there
because this was one of the highest
points along the lake's shore in town.
Milwaukee is famous for its city parks,
which were designed by Olmstead, who did
Central Park in New York City. If you
come this way to see this light, don't
forget to go south a bit into Racine to
see stately Wind Point, which is on the
lake to the north of Racine; and into
Kenosha also for lights.

Wow, talk about making someone homesick Barbara! At one time, I wasnt to far from you, I was in Brown Deer. And you're right, the lighthouse is nowhere near the mouth of the river, that is further downtown. I was last there in 1991, and at the time, did not notice an inordinate amount of vandelism in the parks, and the lighthouse was still there.
