I just got an interesting idea yesterday. I was thinking about the Colonial, pre-Revolution lights of the US:

Boston Harbor (1716)
Tybee Island (1742)
Brant Point (1746)
Beavertail (Jamestown) (1749)
New London Harbor (1760)
Sandy Hook (1764) (Still Standing)
Cape Henelopen (1767)
Morris Island (1767)
Plymouth (1769)
Portsmouth (1771)
Thacher Island (1771)

What if HL released a special "Colonial Collection" of these lights in their colonial forms. Sandy Hook could be depicted with a 1700s lantern (I believe it originally had a birdcage).

The pieces could be released 1-3 a year, instead of the whole dozen at once, to keep collectors costs down. I'm seeing an edition size of 5500, to try to help it keep SOME market value in this market.

Let me know what you think! laugh

Greg,

I think yours is a neat idea. Wonder if Harbour Lights will pick up on it.

I believe too may people would consider the release of such a set as re-releases. I also believe most lighthouse collectors like current versions or versions from the not-too-distant past.

This reply is not meant to stifle your idea but just my honest opinion.

 Bob

I think this idea is fantastic. But it should be made as a set of limited edition LLOM. I agree with Bob leave the LE alone.
I would like to see more of special limited LLOM for special lighthouse events or events in history. Limited these special event LLOM to 500 and offer them at the events only. Probally would sell them all at lighthouse events.

No More RE-Releases...

LE is starting to mean Lot's of Editions instead of Limited!

Great idea Greg, but, bring them out as LLOM pieces and make them in small quantities as probably only certain people will buy them unlike the regular LLOM where tourists and others will prefer the now-a-day look. Leave the LE pieces alone. We have enought reissues as it is.

I like the Limited LLOM idea. Kind of like Bailey's Harbor...technically an LE, but for all intents and purposes, a limited LLOM. Perhaps they could be released like the NJ and MD Challenge sets?

I think that's better than "big" lights. I am one for the "stop the rereleases!" movement. I just hadn't thought of LLOM. It would possibly be nice, too, as you could put it next to your current-era, full-size replica, like a "Then and Now". smile

Interesting idea Greg but I think HL should finish making those on your list that are standing as originally built as regular LE's.

Older versions of the lights on your list just might not generate enough interest to be good sellers, imo. As a LLOM they might draw some takers sold on a local basis or if sold as a "boxed set".

Great idea and i agree a numbered LLOM would be best and easy on the wallet. It would also be possible to get boxed set.

You guys make some interesting points regarding LLOM. Maybe HL should offer special LLOM Box Sets as a limited edition. It would be a more-affordable easier to display minature for a reasonable retail price. They could use the same mold as the regular LLOM but change something in the paint along the base (green water vs blue water, bushes painted different color or whatever).

Offering LLOM in a very limited editon set would increase their collectibility. It would generate more interest in the line.

LLOM in a Limited Edition set would be very nice. Maybe HL will listen to these great ideas.
