Well, I guess it goes with the job but I had to bury my artwork website today. It just quit working and no matter how much CPR we gave it, it never came back! (Just like my customers).

We are in the process of making the big step and registering my own domain and website. The new site is sure to be MUCH better than the old "Free" site with all kinds of bells and whistles (heck, I might even have a burial tutorial)

I will keep everyone posted as to my progress and hopefully I will put together a place that ends up on everyones "favorites" list.

Digger,

Would your burial tutorial be considered interment entertainment? Speaking of which, have you been watching the new series "Six Feet Under" on HBO? Seems right down your alley.

Anyway, good luck with the new website. I'm sure you'll benefit from being "free" of the limitations of the "free" sites. I look forward to putting it on my favorites list.

Completed steps 1&2 today. Registered my domain name (steveervin.com) and signed up with a host (earthlink). Now all I have to do is wait the standard 24-48 hrs for everything to go through and then my little webmaster can go crazy. The only bad thing is it's going to cost me a couple of LE's each year for the website.

Look at it this way, Steve. If you sell just one more painting, you'll probably pay for the whole year's cost.

A few years back Aiwa used a really great commercial (at least to my somewhat warped mind it was.) Digger's current predicament, his occupation and the title he gave this thread reminded me of this classic .

Everything has finally been registered, transferred, connected, etc. and the construction has begun at steveervin.com. I can be directly contacted at my new email address (steve@steveervin.com) or indirectly at (webmaster@steveervin.com). The site is a real "MESS" right now and not worth going to. My webmaster son and I are fighting over appearance right now, he insists on black backgrounds with white lettering (why have a color monitor?). The "Cave Effect" as I refer to it! And worse yet he puts grayscale links that change colors when you move the curser over them, very-very ugly as far as I am concerned. I keep telling him that I want a neutral "Earthtone" background with a nice suttle pattern to it that would enhance the lettering and pics and not envelope them in darkness.

I could sure use some help in locating such backgrounds, buttons, etc. to use on the website. Please email my son at the webmaster address and tell him that those dark "Gothic" colors just don't work! And, PLEASE give us any suggestions that you may have for my site. Thank you very much.

Digger,

I'm thinking Old Gold & Black would be an excellent choice (tic).

Steve - I took a look and kind of like the black background - something I don't usually like. And I like the gray-scale images that change to color when you mouse-over them.

Of course this might change when you have some paintings up.

Sorry, Old Man.
