Let's hear it for North Light, Block Island, Rhode Island! A reasonable and prudent person would believe that the North Light would be as popular as Southeast Light at the other end of Block Island. The caretakers of the light have made great strides in renovating the light, but there's plenty more work to be done. Although the type of structure is not unique, the location could prove to be a challenge to HL. The light is in the middle of a pennisula and it has large sand dunes along one side. If the sand dune ended up in the sculpture, the North Light would make for a rather interesting HL. What do you think about this light? Bob

Right on Bob! I'm with you a hundred percent on this one. Of course everyone should know that I am very partial to New England Lights so I'm sure my comments won't stir up too much, but I do like this one. I've been picking up the ornaments to round out my collection of New England Lights. Harbour Lights, I hope you're listening to us! Bob, great pictures. I heard you got Monomoy Point, still waiting for mine. Bert

Hey Bert, ...Where have you been? We haven't seen you around the CF that much lately. I guess there's at least two of us (so far) that would like to see Harbour Lights sculpt the North Light. It has the potential to be a really different piece if they add the sand dune that is actually on the west side of the light. I'll try to find one of my pictures of the dune and post it here. Bob

Things are a little slow in the support column, Randy. You and I have been around this board long enough to know that the folks from HL visit, read the posts, and listen to the collectors. The more support to sculpt a particular light, the better the chance that it may become a reality some day. We need to keep bringing up which lights the collectors would like most. Photos from different perspectives of different people certainly add to the enthusiasm. Persistence pays off. If you would like to see the North Light at Block Island made, speak up! If there are other lights you would like to see added to the Harbour Lights collection, start a new topic and give it your best shot. "I'm listening..." Bob

North Light, Block Island, Rhode Island. Looks like a great light to sculpture to me. Any light made of natural stone or unpainted brick seems to do well on the market. Is this one accessible from the road? Is it ever open for tours?

Hi Dan, ...The North Light at Block Island is accessible and is approximately three miles from the ferry docks in Old Harbor. Corn Neck Road runs out to the North end of the island and the light is about a three minute walk from the road. There is ample parking and it's free. The light has always been open during the summer months and you can tour the light and climb the tower, so to speak, for a couple of dollars. A nice way to see Block Island is on a rented bicycle. The island is about seven miles long and three miles wide at its widest point. Traffic is fairly light and the maximum speed limit on the island is 30 mph. Lorna and I spend around 35 days each summer at the Block. We love it there. Bob

Bob, you must walk awfully fast, I would say it took over 10minutes to walk back to the lighthouse, but it is an enjoyable walk and photo opportunities along the way... and way back..

Ten minutes, Paul? Were you on a pogo stick? LOL I probably underestimated the walking time by a minute or two. When Lorna & I visit the light, we either walk the length of Corn Neck Road, or we take the Zodiac and pull it up on the beach. Depending on which way the wind is blowing, that can be a tricky manuever. There can be some serious surf there at times. It's always fun to walk the three miles or so down Corn Neck Road and then when we hit the loose sand on the path to the light I shout, "DOUBLE TIME!!" Great exercise for the legs! Bob

I agree Bob, I wasn't expecting much when I made the walk to this light but boy was I surprised. The sand dunes, the setting and the brick work are beautiful. I'd buy North Light in a heart beat.

I'll search through my old pics and come up with one showing the sand dune that is adjacent to the North Light. If Harbour Lights was to sculpt the North Light with the sand dune included in the sculpture it would be another first for HL. I personally think it would make for an interesting piece, and another "best seller".. Bob
