St. Catherine's on the Isle of Wight, UK is close to our heart, because Stan's father was keeper there. Since HL has not made this lighthouse, we had to go to the competition. Fraser - St. Catherine\'s Thought this might be of interest, but I was not sure where to put it in the CF ???

but I was not sure where to put it in the CF ??? That was probably because the forums are about Harbour Lights and not other brands...

No problem I think it will interest people and I wish Harbour lights would make some more International lighthouses, maybe they will in the future.. They (International) haven't been big sellers in the past but with smaller numbers being issued maybe they will be in the future.. Maybe your post would fit better in the I wish HL would make this lighthouse forum, so you wouldn't have to buy another brand, just a thought..

Totally agree with you there! I too would love to see them make some of the lights this side of the pond! The British lights are lovely, but they are not quite as good as the "propper" harbour lights. I think part of the issue about marketing them here will be the price of postage to the UK as well as the "privelege" of having to pay our post offic a fee for collecting the import tax, as well as paying the import tax etc. ... all a bit prohibitive for most people.

Even though this is a Harbour Lights forum I have no problem with other lighthouse manufacturers being talked about. I like Fraser international ,Danbury and the new leftons. There is also a new Canadian Company (I can remember its name) out there that just produces Canadian Lights. I do not collect these, but I feel it adds to our collecting knowledge to see and know about other lighthouse collectable. Even when we were talking about adding changes to the forum a couple a months ago I thought of suggesting a place to post about other manufactures but never did.
Paul also made a good point. Maybe if we made the international lighthouse production smaller say like 500 it would work?

Daniel, I didn't even know Danbury made lighthouses. And as for the Lefton lights, we have one and like it! And I do think we ought to have a place where we can discuss other firm's lighthouses. Why not? They are ususally no threat to HL

You are absolutely right, Margret. In fact, not long ago, we discussed Fraser lights. If I recall correctly, it was precisely about models not made by HL. Several members expressed interest because they do seem pretty well made - never competition for HL, of course. It would be terrific if HL made more international lights. There are some really beautiful lights with incredible history behind them in other parts of the world. I love St. Catherine's. Thanks for posting your beautiful pictures and the link.

It would be great if Harbour Lights were to produce lights from "across the pond", especially St. Catherine's on the Isle of Wight.
In fact, quite a few of us talked about the possibility of seeing HL issue some lights from a country other than the United States. Some (many) of them are beautiful beyond belief.
I maximun of 500 per issue would sell like hotcakes.

I got a Danbury Mint lighthouse a long time ago. It was soon after I started collecting Harbour Lights. I wanted a St Augustine and even then they were very expensive. I got a flyer in the mail from the Danbury Mint and it looked good and was at an affordable price so I ordered it. It is a very nice piece with much detail. Not quite as good as Harbour Lights! Now I only buy Harbour Lights.

My understanding regarding HL producing non US lights, was that HL probably would not make anymore International lights because the ones they did make (Cape Argos, La Jument, Bremerhaven, La Coruna, Longships, and most recently Mahota Pagoda)did not sell as well as expected?? Of course, maybe new ownership would want to try with one or two to see how those go???? Perhaps there is more of a demand for Internationals now.

The success in my opinion depends on who they market to and how.
If these things are made for the US market, then maybe HL needs to concentrate on US lighthouses.
But if they want to market internationally, they should include some international lights.
(and they should look at postage pricing etc. but that is another can of worms)

I have 7 lighthouses that were made by Danbury. One of those is Start Point Light in Devon, England. I had the please of visiting the light a few years ago and and having this replica brings back very good memories
