Talking with Bill the other day at a signing event, it became clear that new editions are decided by the amount of input received from collectors **in the series that HL decides to target next**. That is, HL decides what series needs additional pieces first, then relies on a bank of requests for particular lights that would fit that series.
Some of my favorites that I would like to see made are among those that no longer stand but would have a hard time finding their way into an existing series. How do you fellow collectors feel about a "Forsaken Sentinals" series. Let's not get hung up on this hasty choice of a name, please, but I'd sure like to see your name suggestions posted here! The series would feature neglected, dismantled, fallen, or otherwise no-longer-in-existence, but once-proud lights. They could be depicted in their heyday (so it's not so gloomy a series), or as then/now sets (where now is applicable)a la Morris Island. Some examples of candidates: Minot's Ledge (original pile version, c.a. 1850), Cleveland Lightstation (c.a. 1890), our recently departed Round Island, MS (c.a. 1998), maybe even a Pharos of Alexandria or Colossus of Rhodes?...(maybe not). I'm sure you can think of several more (please post nominees in this forum).
I think such a series might promote a deeper appreciation for rescue efforts of remaining lights (by showing what opportunities have already been tragically lost)and perhaps spark additional interest in the historic aspects of all lights.

Great Idea. Great name?

That is certainly better than Sentinels of the Harbour In Trouble.

I agree that would be a popular idea. It would be nice if they kept it to 1-2 per year in a limited version to not overburden the collector too much more. Maybe one per year like the Christmas pieces, but in the middle of the year (released around the 4th of July or something? a little hokey, but what the hey)
"G.L.O.P." and HC's version doesn't quite make it though. How about something more catchy like:
Collectibles to Honor Illfated, Destroyed, or Endangered Sentinals That Earn Remembrance (C.H.I.D.E.S.T.E.R)? Naw
Bill "Ulysses" Younger's Great Lost And Secluded Sentinals (B.U.Y.G.L.A.S.S.)? Not quite right
Pummeled or Leaning Beacons Remembered After Destructive Years (P.L. B.R.A.D.Y)? Yeh, Right. LOL
Weathered And Tortured Sentinals Of Neglect (W.A.T.S.O.N)? Much better!! It has my vote.

How quickly you rejected the best choice, Rod... I liked the C.H.I.D.E.S.T.E.R. moniker for the series!!!

I like the C.H.I.D.E.S.T.E.R. Series! John is worthy of such a namesake. Now if only someone would help me see the connection between ancient, run-down, obsolete, abused lighthouses and John...

'Forsaken Sentinels' could easily be produced under the currect LE line, just as we've seen a 'Then and Now' piece.
I'm still pining for Great Fog Signal Buildings of the World. ;-)

I think it's a great idea. What better way to really express your feelings for these sentinels than to have... say... all three Cape Hatteras lights side by side?

Another that came to mind was a series on haunted lighthouses. There's some great stories to be told and retold. HL could include the stories with the pieces. Ok, go ahead and say that my idea was influenced by the "Halloween factor",......... my preeetty. What'd ya'all think? I''ll leave the naming of the series to Rod and John. :-)

I think this is a great idea. I've suggested it to Harbour Lights a few times over the past few years. I think Cape Henlopen, Delaware and Cleveland Harbor would make wonderful starter pieces for this series.

I can see it now... the 'Haunted Harbours' series, replete with 'Keepers and Fiends'?

Don't know what stories you've heard a/o read, but the ones I'm referring to have no Fiends in them! Sorry.
